RE: What are the best Horror films ever made?
To be honest all my horror choices are from the 80s because I think thats where they the genre was in its prime, I have also added a few horror films from previous decades..
Psycho (1960) :- the original and still a classic (in black and white tho)
The Thing:- John Carpenters classic remake
A nightmare on Elm Street:- my fave from Wes Craven
(also Part 3: Dream Warriors, Part 4, and Wes Cravens A new Nightmare are the best sequels)
Friday the 13th:- one of the best stalk n slash of the early 80s
(i`ve not seen the sequels so cannot comment)
The Burning:- in the same vein as Friday the 13th but still fun to watch on a friday night
Halloween The one that started all the stalk and slash movies
(also sequels II, III, IV, and H20)
Exorcist III (the official sequel to the first one written and directed by William Peter Blatty the writer of the original Exorcist)
People under the Stairs:- A black horror comedy by Wes Craven
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre:- tame by todays standards but still good
Mr Vampire:- a really cool mix of horror and comedy with hopping vampires
Lost Boys:- teen vampires with Corey Haim, and Corey Fieldman before they went crap
Ring:- the original japanese film
In the mouth of madness:- a real mind bending film
Videodrome:- the original Ring movie by David Cronenberg
Scanners:- a plot driven horror film made famous by the head exploding scene.
The Fly:- David Cronenbergs classic remake
Creepshow:- one of a few best horror anthology film
The Fog:- another John Carpenter classic
Serpent and the rainbow:- voodoo horror from Wes Craven
Jacobs Ladder:- a vietnam horror movie and also the only film I like that has Tim Robbins in
House and House II:- fun horror movies that passes the time away
Killer Klowns from outer space:- a reall funny cult horror movie
The Stuff:- another fun movie from the 80s be amazed if you can still get hold of a copy
Hellraiser and Hellraiser II:- the best S&M horror movie
Dead Zone:- David croenenberg adaptation of Stephen Kings novel
Near Dark:- film noir vampire movie
Hunger:- a good vampire movie that stars David Bowie
Fright Night:- a fun horror movie
American Werewolf in London a really good wolf movie
Re-animator:- a cult classic
The Blob:- A fun 80s remake
The Omen trilogy:- £20 from HMV get it NOW!!!
Phantasm:- A very unusual horror movie
Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead, the ultimate living dead trilogy
Return of the living dead:- an alternate take on Romeros classic trilogy
Witchfinder General:- classic Vincent Price at his wickedly best.
Ghoulies:- a rip off to gremlins but another friday night fun
Critters (see above)
Hidden:- a fun 80s take on The Thing
Nightbreed:- a contradictory horror film by Clive Barker but still good, would love to have seen his original vision of the movie
Poltergiest:- a good ghost movie
Prophecy:- Christopher Walken RULES!!!!
Urotsukidoji Legend of the Overfiend and Demon womb:- Classic Manga horror and its OTT best
Sleepy Hollow:- An excellent TIm Burton movie
Tremors a cool B movie with Kevin Bacon
Warlock a brillient horror comedy with Richard E Grant and Jullian Sands
Something Wicked This Way Comes:- A very good gothic horror movie from Walt Disney who later disowned the film because they thought it was to scary for kids.
So there you go I`ve told you the best horror films around I know I`ve left a load out but heres the top ones I could think of (well looking at my VHS and DVD selection lol).

suspiria and the beyond.
RE: What are the best Horror films ever made?
Damn, I could be here for years! No particular order apart from the Romero mall-munching classic.
Dawn of the Dead - absolute zombie classic, in my opinion the greatest horror of all time!
Night & Day of the Dead - for being two parts of an excellent zombie trilogy that only Romero can make!
Re-Animator - horror has never been so much fun (looking forward to the new film...looks pretty good!)
Near Dark - without question the greatest blood-sucking movie ever!
The Fog - creepy, fog-rolling Carpenter classic - excellent eye-glowing ending!
The Thing - brilliant, atomospheric re-make...gets better with every watch!
Halloween - the original slasher film...again filled with the Carpenter atmosphere that very few horror directors could match (Halloween 2 is also worth a mention)!
The Exorcist - has to be one of the scariest films for it`s time (the only film that ever truly creeped me out...I was only young but I remember the impact that film had on me to this day!).
A Nightmare on Elm Street - set new standards for horror in the 80`s!
From Beyond - Stuart Gordon, once again, excels at bringing another Lovecraft tale to cinematic glory! Goo aplenty & Miss Crampton pleasingly attired for one scene!
Evil Dead Trilogy - for making the woods & trees scary again & for making me laugh more times than I can remember!
Theatre of Blood - Mr. Price hamming it up like only he could do...nice and inventive in the death scene department!
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - never have families been so disturbing!
I could go on for aeons but I`ll stop boring everyone now; but nice to see the following films mentioned...Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Wicker Man, Hellraiser, Creepshow, House, Sleepy Hollow, Psycho, Friday The 13th, An American Werewolf in London, Phantasm, Mr. Vampire...all very, very good films!

I love "Ring" to death, and still after ages I sometimes daren`t turn around and look at the TV when I`m on my way out of the room *just in case* :o)
"The Changeling" is a nice scary haunted house story with one particular sequence I`m yet to watch without looking away!
RE: What are the best Horror films ever made?
Blimey...I don`t think I will sleep tonight after reading this thread :-(
RE: What are the best Horror films ever made?
THE CUBE, horror si-fi?
Good tense film but could never get the end!
Did the last survivor (opps, gave it away there) walk out of the cube to:-
a).....Secret `nasty-works` goverment installation
b).....Alien Base hidden underground.
c).....A location 20 lightyears from earth.
d).....Tesco carpark.
I hate that type of ending!!!!!!!!!
RE: What are the best Horror films ever made?
Wasn`t The Exorcist a comedy?
RE: What are the best Horror films ever made?
