CAN ANYONE HELP

BigPaulH (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 30th December 2000, 10:32

I am very confused about buying a dvd player. I have read so much forum banter. It seems that I need to purchase a Multi-Region dvd/vcd that is Mpeg and MP3 compatable and will play any disks. Can any one suggest what is the best value dvd system that I should buy that is under £200. I have seen a write up on the Lecson-900 at £179 and this seems to have a very good write up. I have also seen the write up for the Alba-130 that also says its great value at £139. Is anyone selling a dvd that has all the functions and spec I need or I have been told I need. Can anyone suggest where I can buy a new dvd or a perfect working 2nd hand dvd player for sensible money. I have found in many papers, mags and Internet bargain pages, hundreds of 2nd hand dvd players for sale from £60 upwards. I dont want to do my money buying the wrong dvd player then everyone saying to me that I should not have bought that one, you should have bought this one. Any advice will be taken onboard and if you know what and where I can buy the right player for the right money, please suggest. Thanks for your help.. BigPaulH in the Essex area.

My advice would be to buy the Aiwa XD-DV370 it does all of the above but what youve gotta remember when buying a player is you will primarily want it to watch dvd`s ..so picture and sound quality should be top of your list. The Aiwa has this ..ive owned 3 players to date and this one outweighs the other 2 by far.

Its £199.00 @ comet or slightly cheaper from other retailers on the net.

i personaly woul`dnt bother with second hand unless it was off a mate as you`ve got no comeback when something goes wrong.

BTW it dos`nt matter what player you buy somone else will always tell you ..you should have got something else.

Hope this helps

Shaun

Richer Sounds - Eclipse 595 - £160.00

Multi-Region and MP3 et al, CD-R, CD-RW

I basically have this in my bedroom (Sony DVPS300 is downstairs) and it is fine for a budget player - it looks pretty good too, which is more than can be said for the Alba.

The other guy is right though - your question opens big debate & everyone will have a diferent opinion.

Don`t be fooled by the good review for the Alba model - although it is useful to check out reviews for players, the reviewers only test using a couple of discs, so often don`t really push players to their limits (probably the case with the Alba model).

I`ve owned an Alba 103 and now own an Aiwa 370 (thanks Jimbo). I have to say that the Aiwa model is definitely worth the 40 quid extra.

Dan.
