POLICE RECRUITMENT- carousel role plays- ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE?

davidnorthallerton (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd January 2003, 14:33

Hi i am applying to the police force and have to complete 6 different
tasks.

4 role plays
and 2 written elements.

I know the 4 role plays involve talking to an actor 1-to-1 for 5 mins each, on a given scenario.

I think one of them may invove a lost child in the supermarket and another possibly including me as a employer sacking(??) a employee working for me.

Has anyone had any experience of this Police Recruitment process and able to offer me some advise on what may be included.

Thanks in advance.

You will either get brownie points for planning and preparation or a slammed door for cheating if you are identified from this post.
Not sure which applies ;-))
But good luck, and keep cool, unflappability is more important than what you actually say.

Searched the internet for techniques?

Surely there`s stuff on police websites for policies on how to deal with similar situations?

I would imagine its all about remaining calm - if you lose your cool, that`ll be it. Prepare yourself - go out and get in arguments with people and see if you can remain calm. :D

It is a similar set up to the part 2 ospe exam foe promotion to sgt which i did in 1995. The advice i got from an in force assesor was to spend time checking and confirming info with the role player from the brief as that gets marks and also take and maintain control of the role play and do not get distracted. Most of all use common sense.

It worked for me I passed

Good Luck

Which force is it for..?

Depending on the force they could use one of a number of different senarios, but generally they are testing your common sence and communication skills.

As stated above, the most important thing is to read the scenario briefing and understand what they are looking for.. the majority of forces mark on a 5x5 matrix.. so each scenario will address different subject and see how you cope with diiferent aspects eg confrontation / appropiate communication etc..

If you get through the recruitment process you will do a number of Skill Development Exercises (SDE`s) which are based on the Ospre Part 2`s. Which will ultimately be similar to this recruitment exercise.

Remember first impressions count and they say the first 6 seconds in particular, make sure you introduce yourself appropriatley and make a possitive start.

Another way is either ring the recruitment dept for hints or go to a police station and ask to speak to a probationer and ask them what scenarios they got..

So in other words can`t really help you with the specific role plays but that would be cheating anyway.....

Mark.
