Aiwa 370 - what`s the proper format for MP3 discs?

asnyder (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 8th December 2000, 18:59

When I got my new Aiwa 370, I popped in a disc of MP3`s that I keep to listen to music on my notebook computer, and it worked except for some confusion of directory names that may have had to do with it being a multisession disc.

I made a new disc using ISO version 1 format and 8.3 format file names, as suggested in the manual, and with all the MP3 files in one directory, also as suggested in the manual. The player reads the disc and shows the number of tracks, but won`t play the music (it just makes sounds as if the head is seeking over and over).

What CD format(s) have worked for others? Is there a way to make the player recognize ID3 tags (I read a review somewhere that said that it did)?

Thanks for any help!

I`m in the same situation with my LG3350. Made a simple test disc with just a few files in the root directory and used 8.3 filenames, but after displaying the filenames on the screen, the player just hunts for the tracks as you describe. I thought I might have a duff unit, so I tried the disc in an LG3350 on display in Currys, and then in an Aiwa 370 in Comet next door. Neither of them would play it. No idea what I`m doing wrong. (Needless to say the disc plays OK in the PC)

When it comes to techie MP3 stuff, I know nowt lads!

However, I used Adaptec EasyCD in Data mode, made a iso9660 disc of MP3`s and my Aiwa LOVED it.

I don`t know what all the rates and stuff were, but I used CD-DA to extract the files from a current CD I own.

Hope this helps.! :o)

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I burnt an Iso9660/Joliet CD-R disc using WinOnCD and about 109 MP3`s downloaded from various places... most were 128kbps, but some ranged from 32kbps upto 160kbps.

I removed any odd characters in the titles but I didn`t bother getting everything below the 8.3 character limit, just made sure they all were .MP3 extensions and shoved them in the root directory.

Apart from the fact this means the filenames were mangled it had no problems reading it or playing the CD and the quality was outstanding... it even sounds good now I`ve recorded it off of the Aiwa onto tape for my car ;). No complaints except the user interface was obviously done by someone who never intended to use it... (or attended GUI design 101)

So your problem is very odd as I didn`t do anything special. Just remember to make it single session and to close it afterwards.

As the Jimbo man says, the Aiwa 370 does the business...

Make sure you don`t use VBR MP3`s as they won`t work on the Aiwa/LG.

Other then that what you describe works fine for me, and burrying then in dirs work great to, as does playing a DVD-Rom with MP3`s on it.

I had multiple problems putting mp3`s on cd when I first got my 370, too many songs listed, truncated names...blah..blah..blah...

Problem was, I was using directcd to write the discs and it writes them in packets instead of continous fashion.

Started using ez-cdcreator, problems gone....

Let me know if this helps....
