I found the rates much cheaper If you dealt with them over the phone each time you call try asking for new rates - rather than quoting the reference number of your last call - believe it or not their car hire rates do get lower! - at the end of they day they`re all on commission.

Also You could try "autos abroad" run by the ex founder of holiday autos and they had adverts promising to match holiday autos.

You could also contact the car supplier direct i.e. if holiday autos book through alamo etc.. contact alamo direct.

Good luck.

Perhaps if you said where you are flying to, someone may know of cheaper hire cars in that area.

We got back from Orlando 3 weeks ago. Hired our car from Holiday Autos (who got it from Alamo) cost £320 inclusive full tank petrol, two drivers (over 25) and the usual CDW insurance etc... You just pay extra for kids car seats $5.99 per day.

Once in US - they still try and sell you extra insurance cover - which we were told in UK We already had..and they try to do an upgrade deal (which sometimes is already included in your Holiday autos package booked in UK - be warned!). In the end we got great car with all mod cons.

Some hired car collect outside the airport - our one was a 15 min coach ride - then long wait to be served.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah... Also try "Hire for Lower" and quote MH for Marcus Hearn Clients (an insurance company - I don`t think they do any checks either)
Reservations: 02074944044 - they had good rates but unfortunately they didn`t work weekends so we couldn`t book them in time.

I checked this out for my brother a while ago. In the end he decided he didn`t need a car after all, but EasyCar was the cheapest I found, the same firm as EasyJet you see on TV. I think the cars were all 6 month old or less, and good prices etc. Depends on whereabouts in Spain you are going.

forgot to say £320 car hire in Orlanda from Holiday Autos was for 2 weeks. We also used them for car hire last year in Austria for 1 week cost about £100 for a Vauxhall Zaffira all inclusive.

Best car hire ion Spain is via :

www.carjet.com

Used them three times from Malaga airport, excellent prices and service - managed to rip bottom of radiator off our rented Fiesta - at the apartment within 30 minutes with a brand new car, nothing extra to pay.

Like Holiday Autos they use a local company - Autos Benelux at Malaga - and the cars are all available on the airport site.

Example? Ford Focus with A/C £84 for a week in low season last year. Brilliant!
