Duplicating audio CDs: By PC or stand-alone recorder ?

Brian Elliott (Reviewer) posted this on Thursday, 27th June 2002, 16:45

Hey guys,

Having recently got a new PC (E-Machines 550) I`ve been looking at how to duplicate CDs using the CD Re-Writer. I already have a digital audio recorder - one of those CD recorders you plug into your stereo - and have been using that for many months, but I was wondering if there will be any huge difference in quality if I begin to take the quicker option of duplicating audio CDs using my PC (and Windows XP) ?

Also, how can I go about making sure that the CD-R copy that I make using the PC is as good as I can possibly make it ?

Thanks,

Brian

If I read you right, you just want to put a Cd in the CD rom & write onto the Re writer. If so just use your Nero software or Easy CD creator. Go to CD COPY & click, then click copy on the right of the screen & it will do it at whatever speed your settings are on, usualy maximum for the re writer. This should give as good a copy as the original.

Paull,

Where can I download the Nero software ? (I`ve heard this is excellent).

I should also point out that I`ve got one of those all-in DVD/CD Player/CD Re-Writer drives. So if I`m copying from CD to CD, the data would have to be temporarily kept on the hard disk. Does the Nero software store the data somewhere before prompting you to copy to a blank CD-R ?

Use cloneCD. Absolutely zero loss. it just makes an image on your hard drive (same size as CD = 650Mb or whatever) and then you write that to CD-R.

Works everytime. from elaborate bytes. shareware version with nags is free.

They say Nero is the best, I use it but have nothing against Easy CD Creator. I`m sure a naughty copy of Nero is on the net, mine came with the re-writer. I know that Nero will put the CD into a Temp folder then record it onto the blank disc. You can also drag the files from the CD to any folder (it takes a couple of minutes) then go to the folder & burn. Did you not get writing software with the combined drive.

I am a big fan of Nero for data and audio from Mp3`s but with copys it has failed on me a few times.

I always use Clone for straight copys. Never failed me yet.

Interesting...I`ve never had a failure yet. Fingers crossed. I have a Sony Re writer, maybe it suits it better or maybe the discs I use are more suited. I always use `Precision` 100 for about £15-00 or the `Tevion` as sold in Aldi About £3-00 for 10 in a thin case. Of course I cock up & make coasters but Nero, not that I remember.

Hey guys,

The CD copying software with Windows XP is pretty poor, and certainly doesn`t seem as good as you are mentioning. Anyone know where downloads are available ?

I`d agree, everything I`ve read says Nero is the best, and I`ve never had a bad disk from it yet, even copying on the fly (disk to disk). There` s a demo download available here:

http://www.ahead.de/en/index.html#download

the full package is about £30-£40 from PC World, Electronics Boutique and similar places, or free with some CD Writers (that`s how I got mine). Once you have a full version you get updates from the page above when they become available.

Mark.

Mr B. Elliot...pull your finger out m`boy and do a search. how hard is it to go to google and type NERO CD BURN or CLONECD CD COPY ;-)

anyway. ignore the chumps and go to www.elaborate-bytes.com for clonecd. it`ll save you time. Nero you will probably get a trial from them for free, but have to pay for a proper copy.

I only had 1 coaster out of about 80 CD`s when I used TDK 74 minute CD`s. Now I have used a cheapo branded 80min and a SONY 80min and both have given me problems. Only if I burn at 1x speed (sllloooowwwww) do I have any success. Very odd.
