PS2 - does it output Dolby Digital and DTS??

Gillsfan (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 19th April 2002, 10:20

I have a PS2 and a Sony DAVS300. As the DAVS has a dts and digital decoder, but isnt multi region. I wanted to buy the region X cartridge and play region 1 discs through the PS2 into the DAVS to decode the DTS or Digital.

I tried just the Gladiator DTS region 2 disc playing through the PS2 and outputing the sound through the DAVS300 and it couldnt handle the DTS.

Any ideas? i may have the wiring set up incorrectly.

PS2 does indeed have DD5.1 and DTS decoders - however, you need to activate them in the PS2 setup menu.... in other words, RTFM.

Eerrrm. Does the PS2 really decode dts and dd? i was hoping it would output these, but if i had known that the ps2 decoded these i wouldnt have bought my davs300. i wouldve bought a 5.1 speaker kit.

If anyone can confirm Handsome`s comments that would be great.

thanks

...relax, all you need is a digital optical cable which you run from your PS2 into your DAVS300 - just make sure you have the Digital OUT options turned on in your PS2 setup options. I have more or less the same setup except my PS2 is connected via my Yamaha DSP-A5 amp.
