Xbox Series X and S in review

admars (Elite) posted this on Friday, 6th November 2020, 08:31

There seemed little point posting the XBox Vs PS5 articles, as there seems little in it in terms of hardware, to me this time round the difference between the actual 2 MS and 2 Sony consoles is more interesting. (our mind is unfortunately made up as the missus will want the new Skyrim when it comes out so therefore it's MS for us :( (not has MS console before, ps1, GC, ps3, ps4)

I like Gamasutra as it's usually more "newsy" less sensationalist/bought review ;)

For the first time ever, I'm actually excited about a console release. Not because I'm going to get one, but because of the impacts they might have on PC gaming. Since both the P*ss5 and the Eggbox Serious Eggs are using SSDs for the first time, games can finally make use of the huge amounts of bandwidth that will now be available.

AAA titles are almost always designed with the limitations of console hardware in mind, so nothing has really taken advantage of the immense bandwidth that SSDs can offer. I suspect that in the coming years, a decent NVMe drive will become much more useful.

Oh, and raytracing is purty.

Surprised one game has decided your future console path, especially as it means switching from your current one.

it's all she plays! well, currently all she plays is fallout 4, I v rarely play it, and if i do it's usually something that's pick up and play and multiformat. she's played through it loads of times, and played through skyrim loads on ps3

funnily enough the reason we bought ps3 over wii  was that she was more interested in skyrim than Zelda which both surprised, and disappointed me ;) not sure why I chose ps3 over xbox, probably just that it wasn't M$ ;) might have been reliability concerns at time with xbox?

the ps4 she won in a competition with Walkers crisps :)
