There's a difference here.

Those exclusives, annoying as they are are platform exclusive, not store exclusive - you only download from one place on your console, not multiple apps.

I'm sure there are loads of store exclusive games, people are just a bit annoyed at it being a store they don't want to have to join, most likely. I would be, if I wasn't perfectly okay with not buying it.

Also it appears the talk of cancelling was from a passionate dev:

Quote:
The recent decision to move Metro Exodus from Steam to the Epic Game Store was made by Koch Media / Deep Silver alone.

The recent comments made by a member of the 4A Games development team do not reflect Deep Silver’s or 4A Games’ view on the future of the franchise. They do reflect the hurt and disappointment of a passionate individual who has seen what was previously nothing but positive goodwill towards his work turn to controversy due to a business decision he had no control over. We respectfully ask that any and all valid feedback over this decision is directed at Koch Media / Deep Silver, and not the developers at 4A Games.

Sounds like 4A Games aren't happy with it either!

Agreed, but both his and their problem is the public perception of the message given out by this guy.  I understand he feels he's caught in the middle with no control, I understand his frustration completely, but his actual dismissal of those concerns by stating that those who can't be bothered to spend a few seconds downloading the Epic Store aren't true fans is pretty outrageous.

Not to mention the fact that he essentially says that those making complaints aren't Metro fans at all and were just looking for an excuse to make trouble, therefore their opinions are invalid and of no interest to him.

I doubt this is going away any time soon.

I just wonder if 2018/19 will end up being the year that Publishers have their arse handed to them by gamers.
