Zenimax, Oculus in legal dispute, and John Carmack's caught in the middle

Quote:
Facebook's $2 billion acquisition of Oculus VR has led to a fight over rights to virtual reality technology -- and game programming legend John Carmack is in the middle of the dispute.

In legal letters obtained by the Wall Street Journal, Zenimax Media -- parent to Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer Bethesda Softworks -- is claiming it owns key technology behind the Oculus Rift VR headset, which was the impetus behind the $2 billion acquisition deal.

I guess some-one realised, maybe too late, they may be able to make some money out of VR after all ;)

that's an interesting idea, as some of the negative comments have been that it's all well and good visually being immersed, but with no tactile feedback it's only 1/2 a job.

looks much better than those "rides" where you sit in a box on hydrolics and it moves around while a video screen shows the sky as you fly in a jet fighter etc.

As for the eventual price: the consumer version should come in similar to what DK2 costs now. "We want to stay in that $200-$400 price range," he states. "That could slide in either direction depending on scale, pre-orders, the components we end up using, business negotiations..."

"Whatever it is," Luckey adds, "it's going to be as cheap as possible." Mitchell nods: "That's really the goal."

a guy at work was talking about it ages ago, he works in another office now, but some-one else in that office told me he has ordered one, and it was suppose to arrive at the weekend. Will be interesting to hear from a "real person" about it ;)
