Pjb (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 20th September 2007, 20:36

My kids old x box not the 360 when turned on now shows a message.

Your xbox requires service. Please call x box customer service.

Does any body know what may be wrong with it. It was working fine then just came up with this message.

Not sure it does. It just seems to say the same thing in different languages. I will have a look tomorrow as the kids are now in bed. Not sure who would fix it any way :( . The kids tell me its time to get the 360 but then again they would ;)

I asked my son this morning and he said he thinks it was number seven not 100% sure so will check it later. He now says it does not do it all the time but I know it has done it four or five times of late by the screams I here coming from his bedroom :o

I don`t think you do get numbered error messages with the old Xbox. That`s something you`d get with a 360 I think. I was going to suggest trying a laser lens cleaner, but seeing as it happens before you even put in a disc, it`s not going to be that. I`d say, either pick up a cheapo second hand one, or get a 360.

My first suggestion would also be the lens cleaner?
Does this happen if you power up with no disc?
Does it happen with all games or only some?

List of error codes and meanings.

Error 7 is HDD time out. Which could be a loose cable or failing/failed HDD.

if it`s out of warranty, open it up & give it a good clean, blow the fan etc, & use a lense cleaner cd, & as said above check the ide connector :)

for intermittent service errors this usually clears it up.
