Page 1 of Driving Games for the X-Box & PS2 - Any Recommendations?

I bought an X-Box when Argos started selling them off for £50 at the end of last year. and since then I have really enjoyed playing both Forza and PGR2.

As I nearly completed these games I also bought Racing Evoluzione and TOCA Race Driver 3 but despite their good reviews, I have been *really* dissapointed by them both and don`t think they are a patch on the other two games I have. There are lots of things I don`t like about them, but the main thing I think is just the `feel` of the driving experience. When driving it feels more like you`re driving a hovercraft or something, where as Forza and PGR2 both give a much better impression of actually driving something that has physical contact with the road.

So bearing that in mind, does anyone have any recommendations for other driving games for the x-box that I might like?

Also, I am hoping to get hold of a cheap PS2, so if anyone has any recommendations for similar driving games on that, it would also be much appreciated. :)

Well, it probably doesn`t help you that you`ve already played the two best sim-style racing games on the Xbox, which will make anything else feel a bit rubbish in comparison. Forza was a little too much Gran Turismo for me, but PGR2 is definitely the premier sim-racer of the generation in my book.

On both consoles, you can pick up Burnout 2, 3 and Revenge, FlatOut 2 and Midnight Club 3 cheaply, and they`re all great arcadey racers, and on the PS2, Gran Turismo 3 and 4 if they`re your cup of tea (which it sounds like they are) If you`re into rally stuff, try RallySport Challenge 2 or the Colin Mcrae games. There`s also a host of motorbike, off-road and futuristic stuff across both consoles if you`re willing to look past cars for your speed fix; Moto GP, MX vs ATV Unleased, Quantum Redshift et al.

Test Drive Unlimited is also out soon for the PS2, so it maybe one to watch, but in all honesty, it sounds like its top notch sim-stuff you`re after, and as I said, you`re likely to be disappointed by everything after Forza and PGR2.

Ummm, Burnout 3 is absolutely fantastic. But looking at your preferences I`m not sure whether you`d like it. It has a nice feel, but it`s aim isn`t exactly what you`d call realism. I reckon if you are getting a PS2 you`d be better off as Matt says and get the Gran Turismo games in. There`s really nothing like them on the Xbox, aside from the games you already have.

As stated above Burnout 3 is good especially in Hi-Def

Looks like I`m definitely going to have to get that PS2 now for the Gran Turismo games, oh well, like I needed an excuse. ;)

I`ll check out some of the other games you recommended too. One thing I love about being a generation behind, even if I don`t like the games at least I`ve only spent a couple quid on them. ;)

I`d second Rallisport Challenge 2 - one of the best driving games I`ve played, definitely the best rally one. It`s fun but realistic too. The fact that you can pick it up off ebay for a couple of quid makes it even more of a definite buy!

Ah you`re like me then! I bought an Xbox only last May, and I seem to have pretty much decided to stay a generation behind it all now. I got pasted for it on here a while ago, and admittedly the new systems are starting to appeal a little. But the amount of entertainment I`m getting from the Xbox means there`s just no point buying a new system for quite some time really.

And I can`t really see me wanting to go back to paying £40-50 a game when I`m picking them up for peanuts at the mo. Game prices are a rip, and this is my way of rebelling. ;)

Truth be told, I`m a PC Gamer in the main, but I tend to do the same there and wait until the titles come out on budget, unless it is something that I consider to be a `must have`.

I hadn`t ever used an X-Box/PS2 before and any curiosity I had for them wasn`t enough to justify the cost over and above my PC gaming habit. But when Argos did their X-Box + 4 Games offer, the cost was no longer a factor, especially as my PC has been having a few technical problems and I won`t be able to upgrade it until later in the year.

I`ve been having so much fun with the X-Box though (more than I imagined - although I still can`t get my head around how people play FPS on these consules without a mouse and keyboard! ;) ), that I figure I will do the same with the PS2 if it is sold off cheap. :)

I would definitely recommend people stay a generation behind though, especially if they can`t afford to be cutting edge, or have no need to be up with the latest technology/games/trends. Saves *so* much money, and is just as much fun! :)

Just wondering if you have considered modding the Xbox so you can put in a bigger hard drive which will enable you to play play games/movies direct from the HD. As we as the use Xbox Media Centre as the dashboard and play games in Hi-Def if you have a HD TV

It`s on my `To do` list. ;) A nice chap over in the Bargain Buckets forum sold me everything I needed to Mod it, I just haven`t got round to doing it yet as I`ve been having too much fun playing. :D
