137+gb HDD problem with my Xbox

enemyonpc (Elite) posted this on Monday, 14th November 2005, 01:24

Not long installed a 160gb HDD on my Xbox and have got about 20 games running on it. I didnt realise until now that i`m only actually using about 120-130gb. Does anyone know how to free up the rest of the drive without losing all my games.

Any help appreciated.

Regards
Bryan

We don`t support piracy on here.

Surely you can`t be playing 20 games at once.

MAME games wouldn`t take up that much space.

btw if you brought a 160gb drive don`t forget it is smaller when formatted

Em, where exactly do i say anything about piracy?.

I got the bigger HDD to load games to purely for portability and load times. If ive got all my games on the drive it means i aint carrying around 20+ games when i go to my mams on a Sunday for instance. No i don`t play 20 games at ones but i like to have a bit of variety.

Also i know a drive size isn`t nearly what i says on the tin but i definatly shouldn`t be losing 40gb. It`s because the Xbox will only recognise 137gb. Theres a way to free up the rest but i don`t know how.

Ok maybe I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

has the HD got Mame and other apps, are they taking up more space than you would think?

can you ask whoever modded it for you?

at the risk of setting of tonyk100`s high horse alert ;) it`s probably your modchips firmware or the installer/dash that can`t support large capacity hard drives, which modchip do you have ?

also have a mooch HERE it`s an excellent source for all things x-box

then i`d have a look over the forums here

tbh, i`m struggling to give advice as this problem has not happened to me (xecuter 1.3 chip + 120gig drive) but as said before, i`d hedge my bets between the dash or the modchip firmware, BUT if you formated the hard disc using the x-box then the chances are that if you expand it up to it`s 160gig capacity then it`ll probably format the whole drive in the process, & that obviously means losing all data :( but i could very well be wrong.

Hi Ogster,

I just decided it would be better to leave things as they were. It took a long time to get my Xbox customised and just right and to be honest and extra couple of gig isn`t worth the risk of ballsing everything else up.

Thanks for asking though
