Video Game Addiction - A Slave`s Tale
Hi Folks,
Not sure where to start this one, but i need people`s thoughts:
My friend elephant stone loves video games, DVD`s, music etc just like all of us,
BUT over the last few months he can`t seem to stop buying anything new that comes onto the market OR he feels he can`t live without.
Its as if he`s become a SLAVE to the whole market and he can`t stop spending!
He`s just blown the best part of £2000 the last month on a LCD HDTV, 5.1 cinema system and a Sony PSP (White Version as he wants to stand out from the crowd) PLUS he`s got a Xbox 360 on pre-order!
He`s been slating the PSP since it came out, and he only gave in to buying one as myself/brother kept txt msg him almost every day for a week TELLING him that he needed to buy a PSP for a joke.........then a few week`s later he txt`s back saying he`s buckled under the pressure and bought one! I worry about the psychological, social, and neurological factors that have been associated with excessive video game playing onto my friend.
A friend of mine Dr. Orzack, the Director of Computer Addiction Services at McLean Hospital, states that social pressure can also lead to video game consumption i.e buying almost every new friggin games console out on the market.
Now this post is only meant as a bit of fun and elephant stone knows i`m just messing around, but are there other people out there who are just buying these new games machines for the sake of owning them????
