I have seen the latest Argos deals wondered if anyone has seen better on their travels?

OK no quite what you had in mind but,...

Got mine 2nd hand from loot.com - local seller - got a great deal with 2 controllers, DVD kit, mem card and 5 games for less than the price of a new plain old XBOX.

Sold the games on Ebay to reduce the `buy` price even further.

I then hacked it using the software mod exploit to get near enough chipped functionality (Divx playback , run games from HD etc)

Worth considering.

hmmm I may have to look into this software mod. I dunno much about chipping etc of Xboxes so will have to look in to it.

Its for my nephew we wont want to chip and risk losing warranty.

Any further info you can give will be appreciated. Looking for one NEW not 2nd hand if possible :) cheers

HOW WHO WERE WHEN ? sorry, any chance you could let me know were to got the software and how to install etc,

Do a search on Google for Xbox Software Exploits. Or pop over to http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php

You do need to invest some money - costs as much as a Mod Chip - but in theory should retain you warranty as you dont open the XBOX and you can remove any evidence of the Exploit if you make a backup of the xbox before you make the changes.

Summary:
You need to own an original Mechassault or Agent Under Fire:007 game for your XBOX and you need an Xbox Action replay or know someone who owns the above items and will let your borrow them for the duration of the Mod.
There are various Software Mods or Exploits as they are known. Most of these require you to download a hacked gamesave for Mechassault or 007 onto a memory card and then save the gamesave onto your Xbox HD. You then run the original game and load the hacked gamesave. This starts up a mini Linux on your XBOX. You then need to hook up a PC or Laptop to the back of the XBOX with a Crossover cable whilst the Linux is running and copy some files from your PC to the XBOX HD etc using FTP.

A bit involved but you keep the warranty, safer than chipping the XBOX and if you know someone with Action Replay and one of the above games it will cost you nowt except perhaps a pint or two for your mate. Plus I genuinely think Mechassault is worth owning - paid around £17 for it on CDWOW a while back. Cracking bit of mindless destruction!

I have been using my XBOX with a Software Exploit for around 2 months now and it all seems to be going OK.

wow nice post m8 very informative.

Im wondering if these software exploits work with the the new Xboxes though?

I would have thought good old M$ would have patched for this exploit by now.

Anyone know? Or am I gonna have to actually read up on it ;)
