Have got an Xbox and really want to plug in some kind of surround sound kit, though don`t know what to buy or where to start?

Would really appreciate some help with this please.... thanks!

I have a Sony HT-BE1 DD/DTS 5.1 surround kit, since Christmas, and it is excellent - even our very own Westy gave it a good review. It costs around £250, and on top of that you need to buy from GAME something called a high definition pack for £20 if you want to use it with your Xbox.

For Westy`s review, head over to his column, or alternatively e-mail the great man himself.

If you have a smallish room, I can recommend the yamaha Tss-1 surround sound system which includes optical, coaxial and stereo sockets for pro logic. It supports DTS as well as DD 5.1 and is now at the bargain price of £99 (John lewis). I use this for my dvd player and my xbox and can`t fault it, except for it has no remote.

Almost anything Yamaha make is brilliant. I have the RDS 520 and can`t pick a fault with it.

I think the piece of kit you`ll need to connect the XBox to your surround system is called a Scart Lead Advanced. This provides a separate box with an optical output from which you can run an optical cable (available separately) directly into the back of your amp.

The following link will take you to a picture of the product...

You should then be able to pick up your optical cable from any decent home entertainment store (ie. Currys, Richer Sounds, Dixons).
