Don`t buy a videogame week (1st - 8th Dec)

Chris Wilkinson (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 5th December 2002, 20:12

I apologise if anyone has posted about this before, but I don`t see a recent posting on this forum at any rate so here goes:

This week is "don`t buy a videogame week", in protest at the high cost of videogames currently. You can go back to buying next week, but for now please stop!
More details (and an explanation of what this is all about) can be found at http://fairplay-campaign.co.uk/ , so go and check it out.
Thank you all.

A good cause but do they really expect it to work, too many people don`t know anything about this, and even if they do so do publishers meaning that they know we will start buying games again from the 8th. In other words it wouldn`t make a slight bit of difference, although I wish it would.

It`s had a decent bit of coverage in the Press but it`s also attracted a lot of flak as well in that the campaign itself does seem rather cynically motivated. A particular clanger was they were using an 8 year old quote from Peter Molyneux and he was not amussed.

Would be nice if the prices did drop but as long as we keep paying the prices they`ll keep selling em at those prices! (Says someone who just bought another 2 Xbox games today! (one was an xmas pressie!))
