Honestly I knew his sexuality would be an issue for some, being a Disney flick. And in fairness I thought the scene handled the subject well, and the language was indeed appropriate for the year. Being gay in 1916 wasn't something that was spoken about openly, and even though the conversation was just between Macgregor & Frank, it was realistic that he still didn't use the word 'gay'. Which, at the time was still a widely-used metaphor for 'light, bright or happy', rather than explicitly for being of the homosexual persuasion.
