Flixster Video is shutting down

Pete-MK (Elite Donator) posted this on Monday, 17th June 2019, 23:04

Since UV closed earlier this year, Flixster has been more or less dead in the water ever since. I could never get most of my titles to play on my phone, and contacting User Support about it was akin to smashing my head against a wall several times, so it's gratifying to hear they've arranged to migrate any redeemed titles across to Google play/Youtube (which has been the recent format for streaming titles anyway).

Here's the email i received:

Thank you for using Flixster Video to watch your favorite movies and television shows.

Following the announcement by UltraViolet that it will be discontinuing its service on July 31, 2019, we are writing to provide you notice that Flixster Video is planning to shut down its website, applications and operations on October 31, 2019.

To enable you to continue to enjoy your video collection after the shutdown of Flixster Video, we have made arrangements to allow Flixster Video users to migrate available videos in their Flixster Video collections to Google Play. Google Play is a global online store that is home to the latest apps, games, music, movies, TV shows, books and magazines you can enjoy and share on all your favorite devices.

Please note that certain videos in your Flixster Video collection may not be available for migration to Google Play. Certain other limitations may apply subject to the terms of service and available features of Google Play in your country.

We will provide you further notice and information once this Flixster Video – Google Play migration process is available for Flixster Video users, which is expected to be in July 2019.

In the meantime, prior to July 31, 2019, please go to Flixster Video, log in to your Flixster Video account and make sure that your account is linked and remains linked to your Ultraviolet library to ensure that your Flixster Video collection is up to date.

So a few of the titles won;t be migrated, probably for legal reasons, and probably those titles I could never play anyway.

Not had that email yet.
Just checked my account, I have 112 titles. 6 of them have "playback unavailable", I've never got round to finding out why but guessing a studio removed them from ultraviolet. Glad they are switching to Google instead of just closing down.

I had about 25 titles on there. I think 2 might have migrated to YT.

To start this migration process, please click the link below to take you to the new Flixster Video landing page and follow the relevant instructions.

If you've got a Flixster account you should get this email. Once logged in you'll see the list of titles in your collection that can and can't migrate. Happily, virtually all of mine can with the exception of Monuments Men 7 one of the new Apes movies. no real loss.

EDIT: turns out the transfer is instantaneous. Look like I'm watching Oblivion again tonight
