Not sure why Crowe took a role in this film
RE: The Man with the Iron Fists
Any post containing the words `even worse than Crouching Tiger` negates itself. Look up Wuxia.

Science Fiction Charactors as opposed Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. They didn`t need to fly around on wires
RE: The Man with the Iron Fists
Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan
both had used wire work in their movies ;) along with film speed manipulation :)

If you had you`d realise that it is a genre of cinema that has much in common with our current superhero films. The characters in it are supposed to be capable of superhuman feats - it`s fantasy. These are not Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan films (although as Ogster says they both stared in films that feature exaggerated martial arts); they are meant to be able to leap enormous distances, skip on water, perform feats of strength and incredible acrobatics etc. Kill Bill is a western film with wuxia elements (although it`s not a period piece so it doesn`t really count), and this is another (inferior) attempt.
Some memorable wuxia films are the aforementioned CTHD, Curse of the Golden Flower, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Musa, Zu Warriors, Wu Ji (The Promise), and Detective Dee. Forbidden Kingdom is a better American example and even Kung Fu Panda was a sort of wuxia film.
There are many, many more examples and some of them are damn fine films.
