RWB (Elite) posted this on Friday, 1st March 2002, 20:53

This is one of my usual threads asking for a little bit of help from people who use this forum. Below are the movies I`m interested in getting, please rank them in descending order of greatness. *PLEASE NOTE ALL ARE REGION 2*:

Heartbreakers
Planet of The Apes (2001)
Final Destination
American Pie 2
Die Hard With A Vengeance: Special Edition
Open Your Eyes

Thanks.

not a great bunch anyway but i`d prob go this way :-

American Pie 2- really funny if you like grossout comedy
Die Hard With A Vengeance - Willis and Jackson are ace in this
Final Destination - teen shocker with tongue firmly in cheek but well done.
Heartbreakers - worth it just for Jennifer Love Hewitt and those Mini`s
Planet of the Apes 2001 - absolute pants what was Burton thinking of..

not seen Open Your Eyes so can`t list it anywhere

Open Your Eyes - amazing film. crap R2 (and R1 actually) extras. but who cares?
Planet of The Apes (2001) - top film. stupid amount of extras
Final Destination - semi-scary film. a couple of good `chiller` moments
Heartbreakers - don`t ask me about extras. but it`s better than the one`s below
Die Hard With A Vengeance: Special Edition - only going low in the list cos it`s VERY cut when compared to region 1 (would be no. 1 or 2 otherwise)
American Pie 2 - BOTTOM OF THE PILE. w*** w*** w***. not literally (if only. it might have saved the film)

hi there
*I didn`t really like final destination so that one will be last, didn`t see american pie2 as I didn`t like the first one. so consider these 2 as the bottom of the list.
*Planet of the apes 2001: the movie may not be the best but the 2disc-set is AMAZING.
*Heartbreakers is a nice film but the UK R2 is crap (no extras)
*I`ve only seen the first hour of Open your eyes and it looks lot better than the Vanylla sky remake.I`ll buy that one for sure but not the UK disc. It seems that you can`t play R1(I`m not the only one then), so go for the Dutch version (also R2). it has nearly the same extras as theUK disc but has DTS (UK has only stereo), or you can get the spanish R2 with lots of extras(no subs on extras though) but not anamorphic. I`ll get the dutch version from www.dvdzone2.com
*Last but not least: Die hard 3. AVOID the UK-R2 as it is heavily cut. I`ll get the french edition(amazon.fr / www.cinestore.com / www.fnac.fr / www.dvdzone2.com to name only a few places where you can get that one) Although you have to wait a bit longer for that one: 24 april.
so in a nutshell:

1a) Open Your Eyes - dutch version!!
1b) Die Hard With A Vengeance: Special Edition - french edition
2) Planet of The Apes (2001)
3) Heartbreakers
4+5)Final Destination + American Pie 2

Hope that helps you a bit

OK, but I will probably stick with R2 for the moment with the above discs. Any more comments?

just remember that all of the above versions: dutch, french and spanish are R2!! and german DVD as well
on a more general note: if you have problems finding certain titles or the UK versions haven`t enough extras, you should always take a look at the german, french or dutch editions, as they are all R2 there are no compatability problems and they are often cheaper due to the strength of the british pound against the euro.
I bought the german edition of Evolution with english dd 5.1 sound and a lot more specials than the UK disc.
But sometimes you have to check carefully: when independent studios in the rest of europe bring out a movie and they don`t have the full rights for the original english soundtrack those companies are forced to put "non-removable" subtitles on the original soundtrack. example Hannibal is released by BMG-Video in Germany and if you select the english soundtrack you have german subs on it. that is unless your player can get around user-prohibitions like some Sony.
right this is probably more info than you were looking for but I hope it helps you some day.
