Enemy at the Gates - Region 4

Tarby21 (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 20th February 2002, 10:15

I managed to obtain a copy of this for a friend of mine and he is unable to play this on his machine - a Sony DAVS 500. He is able to play Crouching Tiger from the same region.
Does he need a region hack or is there some way in which he can reset the machine to play this disc?

Any help would be appreciated.

"Enemy.." is probably has the dreaded RCE feature which stops the disc running on multi-region machines. "Crouching Tiger..." may not be RCE, which is why it works. It depends on how DVD have been modified for multiregion. Some can get around the RCE problem.

Region 4 DVD`s do not have RCE. Enemy at the Gates is only R4 where as Crouching Tiger is dual encoded with both R2 & R4. Check here before you buy any R4 if you do not have a multiregion player:

There are no region hacks for Sony players, you need to get them chipped.

Crouching Tiger is coded R2 & R4 as Columbia (Sony) own the rights in both countries whereas for Enemy at the Gates it is Fox Pathe (R2) and Village Roadshow (R4) so they each restrict to own region.
All the Village Roadshow titles are R4 only.

Peb you can get remote hacks for the latest x00 series Sony DVD players (but not 500 & 800). These use very long codes (need a Palm Pilot or similar as hundreds of characters need to be sent) not just a few key strokes.
