Underworld - the best music DVD by a mile...and then some!!!

To continue this thread that started in Robert`s welcome to the Software forum, thought I`d bring to y`all`s attention the FANTASTIC sound on the new Underworld live DVD, "Everything Everything" (I`ve also reviewed it elsewhere on this site).

Both Simon Bovey and myself agree it is the best music format we`ve ever heard. Underworld`s music is cool enough already, but to hear it in 5.1 with the sub banging away like the Sheffield Wednesday/Charlton Athletic drummer is something else.

The great news is that the company involved, Strongroom, are also putting the finishing touches to offerings from Orbital (THE BEST!!!) and Motorhead (25th anniversary - and Lemmy doesn`t look a day over, er, 50).

To quote Home Entertainment Dec 00:

"Nina Mistry, Studio Manager at Strongroom, commented `On DVD, music is a bit behind video at the moment and we aim to introduce more and more people to this increasingly important format`"

(Source : "Underworld DVD Released, p.8, issue 84 of Home Entertainment).

Makes my crackling VHS copies of `Here are the Young Men` (dodgy live footage of Joy Division) and `Perverted by Language` (ditto by The Fall) seem prehistoric.

Bring it on, Orbital!!!

Yeah - I hope they get their hands on the rights for a lot of other bands - on the same theme as Underworld - how about some major festivals - e.g. Glastonbury , Homelands , Love Parade etc

Glasto shouldn`t be a prob, Simon, because the Beeb have covered the last three years. The BBC Choice coverage was ace this year (made bearable by Adam & Joe!).

My only concern is - would this see the release of a live DVD by Old Mr Wobbly Head himself, David Gray - he did two sets but only one half-decent song between them (`Babylon` of course). Nice bloke, tho`, shame about the muso MOR crap from hell....

The set by Basement Jaxx was cool, but the sound was appalling. Coldplay and Muse would be worth it tho`...

Yeah i can think of obvious abuses of the technology (e.g. Backdoor boys , westlife , spice girls and other crap bands we are suppose to like)

Not sure if the Beeb would have it record in 5.1 or if they would do a DD 2 channel mix thing.

I am a bit surprised that MOSound havn`t done anything yet because they oftenpickup on new technlogy/ideas quite quickly

Stop Making Sense (Talking Heads in case you didn`t know...) has a 5.1 soundtrack, but seeing as though I`m still in poxy stereo I can`t comment.

The stereo track is good though, and it is a great album and an even better DVD. Not only for the extra tracks, concert footage and the big suit, but the bonus David Byrne interview which is superb.

Only music DVD I own (unless you`d count True Stories, which I wouldn`t, so I dunno why I mentioned it)

Gotta go, there`s a ghost in my house...
