Page 1 of Buying DVD`s abroad.....
DVDs & Films Forum
I`ve noticed so many people say how cheap it is to buy dvd`s from US/Canadian Web sites with free delivery !!!.
Well, personally I don`t think they are as much of a bargain as people think. It`s like I see some people on Ebay buying DVD`s about 50p cheaper and sometimes more expansive than you can get it new ! - why take the risk and you juest can`t compare, anyway getting back to the point about foreign DVD`s I find credit card companies ripping people off with their exchange rates and making region 1 dvd`s normally costing around the £15+..
I`d rather wait a few weeks for the UK release and search for the best price and pay what I see I am about to pay.
Obviously some have longer delays in releases between region 1 and 2 and you have the choice.
Anyone else notice this - bring on the Euro !
RE: Buying DVD`s abroad.....
Whilst not everything is cheaper, it is certainly possible to make substantial savings on certain DVDs by using US and/or Canadian websites. However,I have to say that I personally tend to use EzyDVD in Oz as my first port of call if I`m looking beyond the shores of the UK for a DVD - top service and a weak Aussie dollar make them pretty much unbeatable.
I`m not sure I see the relevance of your reference to eBay either - what`s that go to do with buying from overseas suppliers?
Can`t agree with you about credit card exchange rates. They`re way better than any kind of tourist rate you would get. If you can get the disk as cheaply or cheaper at home, buy it here -simple as that!
And don`t even get me started on the Euro and a single currency........

Keep the Euro away!
I don`t mind importing from "Euro" countries thanks to their idiotic choice to weaken their economies - makes everything cheaper for us with the strong pound!
only a fool would join the Euro with a currency as strong as ours - especially when we have such low interest rates and expensive goods.
Are you by any chance AndyPandy of `The Mad Teddies" fame?!
You don`t mind importing from countries that use the Euro, but a lot of them are rounding the prices up to nice round Euro`s, so you pay that little bit extra!

Let`s roll onto the euro forum.....
RE: Buying DVD`s abroad.....
Andypandy you are missing a couple of points.
If you use a site like Play 247 you can often see the R1 disk for a couple of quid cheaper than R2. OK a couple of quid is not a lot.
But historically R1 disks are months in front of R2. If you are alergic to sitting in Cinemas with loads popcorn crunching morons this is good news.
Secondly the R1 disks nearly always have a better spec than R2. More extras and most importantly to Home Cinema fans DTS sound.
I realise if you dont have the full setup this is irrelevant. But for those of us that do. R1 is a must whilst we are still discriminated against.
