Only One Blu-Ray Film - What would you buy?

Mister Smee (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 5th March 2008, 12:36

So I`ve got the PS3, I`ve got the HD ready telly.
I want to buy one Blu-Ray film to play on it but which one to get?
Needs to be a good film (!) and needs to take advantage of hi-def.

My first thought is Casino Royale and the trailer I downloaded from the PS3 website looks mighty fine. I`ve had suggestions of Underworld and LotR. Any other ideas?

Remember: there can be only one...

LOTR on bluray? Didnt think they had been released on the format yet. And Underworld is s***e. Starship troopers looks very good on bluray.

Why not just get the film you like the most?

Saw Spidey 3 in a shop and it looked really good. I`d probably say to go for a recent release, the pic is likely to be better than an older film (though I haven`t seen the others mentioned to comment)

Try the HD Digest website for that type of stuff. I`ve heard POTC looks stunning on BD.

There`s loads of films I like lots but many of them are old and may not benefit from BD treatment. I`ve mostly given up buying films (I had two and a half million on VHS and since I got rid of them most of the DVD`s I buy are for the kids) so don`t want to start collecting BD one`s now either. I wouldn`t buy a film I didn`t like just to show off the BluRay...

But if you want to use it as a virtual penis to wave in peoples faces, Cars is amazing.

Most films benefit from the BD treatment, so I still say go for the classics. Life of Brian looks great on BD, in spite of its age. If you`re just after stuff that looks good, any new film will do that. The pirates films look good, apart from the framing issues (not my cup of tea though). Fantastic Four 2 is a great looking title, as is the whole of the Spider-Man trilogy. 300 also looks nice. If Warner had pulled their fingers out and released the Matrix set, I`d say go for that, but they haven`t... Blade Runner isn`t a bad choice either.
