Yeah, saw this last week on Yahoo. Looks like someone isn`t f***ing up a remake for a change. Be interesting to see if he can improve on the original, and how it might compare.

Can`t wait. :D

Halloween is near perfection. I don`t like horror films mainly because the vast majority of them are s*** (more so than any other genre). From what I`ve heard, Zombie wants to show exactly how Michael Myers became such a psycho, which is missing the mark by such a large margin that I wonder if he even watched the original.

Still, only time will tell. I`m not a fan of Halloween, I just can`t watch it, too freaky... but I respect it as one of the finest examples of horror.

Watching that just reminds me of the treatment meted out to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake - formulaic rubbish with none of the suspense or shock of the original and no doubt more gore, less character development and MTV editing. I just can`t see the House of 1000 Corpses/Devil`s Rejects style of filmmaking working with a Halloween film.

Plus, why try to explore the character of Michael Myers any more - he`s already been in 8 films, so what is there left to show? It looks a thoroughly depressing film that will probably make a shedload of money after appealing to the 15 year olds who think that is what a horror movie is.

I hope I`m wrong, but I suspect I won`t be. :¦

Michael Myers is just a big psycho who kills teenagers and doesn`t die good.

THAT`s all you need to know about him for the purpose of these films.

My thoughts exactly. What`s the point? The original is - in terms of what a horror film should be and how it should make you feel - pretty much perfect. Still gives me the willies.

Doing the MTV thing to the remakes and slinging them into cinemas is getting mighty boring - are any of them actually any good? Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hills Have Eyes, The Fog... p*ss poor.

Actually, I thought that The Hills Have Eyes was a pretty damn good remake.

I actually think that this is a pointless remake, I mean what was wrong with the first film in the first place that meant it had to be re-done (or `re-imagined). Saying that, there could be a much worse director than Rob Zombie on board. At least we know he`s a horror fan, and he cares for the subject material.

More to the point he`s a Halloween fan, I saw him on an American chat show a few months back and when asked why remake Halloween he replied.

"A few years ago i saw some kids trick or treating and they were dressed as Michael Myers, I then realised that kids love this character well i want to make Michael Myers terrifying again".

That got me well up for a remake.

Realistically, what else could Dimension Films do with the series? The partial reboot with H20 (junking the continuity from parts 4-6) worked for a while, but now the `franchise` has disappeared up its own bumhole again. Any further sequels would certainly go straight-to-video.

Like it or not, a total reboot is the only way Dimension can make serious money from the Halloween `brand` now.

We don`t need a "New Britain" or even a "New New Britain". We want...
