Page 1 of Simpsons S1 vs Family Guy S1

Debate Time. ( hopefully lots of you will participate so it will be a mass debate.)

When viewed in isolation which stands up the best.
Simpsons Season 1 or Family Guy season 1.

For me FG walks it by a mile purely on the gag/time ratio, fantastic.

Ah yeah, but you have to bear in mind the first episodes of The Simpsons are about 12 years old (and drawn by a 12 year old, by the looks of it). The great thing about The Simpsons is that the characters have grown and grown over the years, and the in-jokes developed over a major period of time.

On the other hand, however, Family Guy won me over from Episode 1.

If you were to compare the upcoming Simpsons Season 13 with Family Guy Season 1 there`d be no contest - Simpsons every time for me.

However Simpsons S1 0, Family Guy S1 1 for me too, Lardarse !

I`m afraid I have to agree. I never thought the day would come when I`d say Homer`s time is up but unless the makers of the Simpsons pull out all the stops the show will be left behind.

Family Guy is far funnier - Peter and Stewie Griffin are the new kings of cartoon comedy. Spare a thought for Hank Hill - does anyone know when this underrated show is coming to dvd?

As I`ve mentioned on another thread, Family Guy doesn`t have a ghosts chance in hell of lasting 12 years.
Family Guy is very good, but ultimately unoriginal. The characters don`t have the same appeal as those in The Simpsons. The humour is less subtle and consequentially is more tiresome.
If I say `Family Guy` to the average shmo in the street 15 years from now the response will either be `never heard of it` or more likely `F*ck Off you weirdo! Police! HElp! HElp!`

Yet to see Family Guy, but I thought I would throw the fan-freakin-tastic `Duckman` into the equation. (Anyone know if this is available on DVD?)

Can we even try and compair the shows? I don`t think we can, I own both on DVD and watch them both. However they are two very different shows. FG is very off the wall with the story lines and the characters it uses, (talking baby, dog) while the simpsons is fairly realistic in terms of the storys and issues it tackles. The jokes in FG are much more apparent and quick however the simpsons one you have to keep your ears and eyes open for them. The characters are also better developed in the Simpsons however this is due to the show been 12 years old. FG while funny will not last as long the Simpons I think people can not connect with it as well as the Simpsons.

If this was 100% based on the content of each programme`s series 1, then FG would win. Why? More instant appeal. Extras wise? The Simpsons.

Every other series? The Simpsons. Why? It`s much better. End of story.
