OK Is taking your 3yo to see Casino Royal a good move?

BazzJ (Competent) posted this on Monday, 20th November 2006, 12:50

Went to the flicks Sunday for the 1st time in ages to see the new Bond movie, which I have to say is excellent and this muppet walks in with a 3yo and 10yo and sits down to watch the movie. Appart from the occasional squeal form the boy, the continuous tapping of his foot on the back of my chair drove me nuts. Who in their right mind takes a 3yo to see a 12A movie I ask you. The place was packed out so I couldnt move seats even if I wanted to.

Sorry rant over - I have to say the film was brilliant one of the best Bonds yet and will be one I`m adding to my collection!

ATB,
Baz.

To answer the question: No.

Two reasons:
1. No-one knows how the film is going to affect the kid.
2. I get so annoyed by being asked questions about what`s going on every 5 minutes and then having to take them to the loo so missing plot into the deal.

The BBFC advises that no child under 8 should see a 12A film. That said, the `A` leaves a great deal to parental discretion and if the parents are complete idiots who think that 10 and 3 year olds should watch people being beaten to death and tortured, then they`re perfectly entitled to do so.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Peter Jackson`s "King Kong" was also a 12A. I paid to see it at a luxury screen to avoid the riffraff, and there were about 5 pre-school children there, all along with their parents for a jolly.

Result? They all ended up booing in terror during the T Rex scenes. Surprise surprise! Not to mention the constant yacking when they were bored.

Some parents!!! >:(

P.S. I`m sure the mods will move this thread if they spot it. I suppose it ought to be in the General section.

If the BBFC say that no younger than 8 is the guideline then the cinema should have refused entry.

I would have asked for my money back.

Guideline, not law. Still, parents are the ones to blame in these situations. I hate the ones who take their kids to the cinema so they can have a break, letting them run around and switch seats all the bloody time. If it`s not that it`s the endless talking and questions. Fair enough the kids might not follow the plot, but why should I have to suffer because someone has taken their kid to an inappropriate movie?

I`d expect it at a Pixar film, but I do not appreciate it when I go to see borderline stuff filed with pre-teens (Bond was like that when I went on Friday). Still, that`s not as bad as the bloody adults who talk incessantly through films, because those inconsiderate bastards should know better (I`m thinking of the twenty-something couple who all-but ruined Pick of Destiny for me on Saturday).
