STAR WARS - The Prequels - Where Lucas went wrong........My turn.

OK, so I sat down last night and watched "Revenge of the Sh*t" again.

I`m sooooo irritated by this film and it`s even crappier brothers, that I cringed the whole way through it. That`s not to say that it didn`t have good moment, but damn Lucas knows how to make a good actor really Sh*t.

So i`ve been giving this a lot of thought - and if I had the chance to make these films again what would I do differently.

Casting - Out with Christenson, Out with McGregor, Out with Jake Lloyd. Out with Liam Neeson. In with Kenneth Branagh as Obiwan. Don`t know who to cast as Anakin, but he would be older than Christenson.

The Story -

Episode 1 -

Anakin is already a great pilot for the republic, fighting in the Clone Wars - he leads an attack on an unknown planet. Same deal as before, fighting small one manned fighters against other Tie-style spacecraft. He`s amazing, crazy manoeuvres all over the place.

The Jedi have been watching him and he has befriended the wise, Obi-Wan (played with style by Kenny Branagh), they realise that he has strong ties with the force. Despite arguements with Yoda over how old you have to be to become a Jedi, Obi-Wan secretly starts to train Anakin. He excels in the ways of the force.

After only a short amount of time, Obi-Wan reveals his secret and asks the council if they will let Anakin prove his worth. He has to take the test.

Begrudgingly they accept Anakin as an Official Padawan when he faultlessly overcomes his tasks. The council are worried by the recklessness of Anakin and his tendency to use aggression. He`s a born fighter, been at it his whole life. (I see Anakin as a Han Solo character, rather than a Luke).

Despite being a loose cannon, he`s a breath of fresh air in the Republic, a Jedi with flair. He soons starts to win over members of the senate to his way of thinking. Especially interested is the Senator Palpatine, a senate elder with a menacing look. He`s orchestrating the fight against the Clone armies and considers Anakin a useful ally.

News arrives of the clone Army amassing near (make a planet name up), main power source to the east quadrant of the galaxy. With an attack under way - Jedi fighters are sent in with the troops, only to come across their nemesis The Sith. Hiding for years in the outer territories these priests of the dark side have been lying in wait to attack the staid Jedi. Unfortunately the Jedi are no match for the underhanded tactics of the Sith and many perish.

Back at Coruscant, Yoda and Obi-Wan discuss the future and both come to the conclusion that their only hope is Anakin, a new style of Jedi.

.................so that`s my start - i`m open to ideas, or even different story lines from you lot. I have some good ones for Episode 2.

Who would you cast?, What do you think the storyline should have been?

I think you`ve forgotten to include a subplot for Jar-Jar!

I would have cast a CGI Alec Guiness, and then do some more CGI on top of that to make him look young again. I`d then probably add some more CGI to the original trilogy to make Guiness look more realistic.

Giggity giggity!

I came to read this thread thinking - here`s another guy totally full of himself, but I 100% agree with everything you are saying! Somehow this story would really really really rock compared to the bull we were subjected to!!! And whenever we remake this, can we PLEASE leave out all the romancing scenes between Anakin and Padme - I hate to say this, but this story appeals to me as a true scifi war - good/evil kind of thing, and romance makes is f***all lame!

Wish I could find a smiley which is clapping

I guess I`m alone on this forum in loving the prequels. Watched TPM today and loved every minute! :p Sorry guys, I suppose that gets me thrown out of the "Real Men Club" or something.

It`s very popular, and very boring at the moment to be constantly knocking the prequels. Particularly on forums and suchlike. It`s funny though, at work today we were talking about Star Wars and loads of people were saying how much they loved them. Even the film geeks, which really surprised me.

I can understand how they aren`t everyone`s bag, but hell, I grew up with SW, and I still love the whole thing.

Anybody else here have the guts to stand up to the wrath of the haters, or am I truly alone here??

EDIT: Having read your post again NCH, I think it`s interesting how fan writing has evolved around SW, and continues to do so. I reckon you`ve got a couple of good ideas there that would be better spent turning into something worthwhile, rather than re-writing something that`s already out there. Funny too, how adult the fan writing is now around SW. :)

ok i find the prequels a lot weaker than the first films but this is just getting silly

kenneth brannagh? good actor but gilderoy lockhart from harry potter as obi wan???

sorry just don`t get it.

and yes the padme/anakin romance could have been handled better but without that plot strand how exactly do you come up with the original films?

also why do the clones wars suddenly just start in your story line? at least lucas explains why it starts in his story and why its relevant.

and it doesn`t matter what your views on the star wars films are bottom line is george lucas has complete control over it.(clever git)

and am not being mean to anyone over this it just my point of view.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

That`s kind of one thing that`s really great and yet really annoying about Star Wars. Everybody thinks they can do it better than Lucas. HINT: You can`t. But it`s fun to try, hence why there`s so much fan scribbling going on.

I suggest to those of you who reckon they could do it better than GL, why not get to writing your own story within the SW universe? It`s better than having to listen to you crying and moaning on film forums about how "Lucas teh suxxor!!11one" and "Anak1ns are teh g1irlz".

Good luck!
