bought cyberhomeadl 528 and understand there is firm ware to change some functions .what is firm ware and how does it get to my dvd player ?? thanks L

It is the software held on the chips inside the player (usually EPROMs (Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory - I think!!) - as opposed to software which is stored on a hard disc or other device. It can be updated using a CD with a new version of the Firmware on it. Don`t panic - it`s reasonably easy to do. You need to have access to a CDR drive, to be able to copy the firmware update on to a CD. You then insert this CD into the DVD player, type a code on the handset to tell it to load the new firmware, wait a couple of minutes, and it`s done!

Go to http://www.cyberhome-help.de/download_firmware_english.php4 where you can download the appropriate version for your player. I have a 512, so can`t comment on what version of the 528 firmware to use - there is a forum on that site too, so maybe there will be some discussion of this issue, and what it fixes.
This site also has good instructions on how to load the firmware onto a CD, how to check it`s OK, and finally (and most importantly), how to load it onto your player.

Hi there,

I have visted the URL above and it`s all a bit confusing. Have you downloaded and used firmware from there yourself?

If so, how do you know which file to download?

I have a toshiba sd110e which I want to "hack" but using firmware rather that chipping it.

Hope you can point me in the right direction.....

The downloads there are all for Cyberhome machines.
I don`t think the Toshibas can be upgraded via firmware - I stand to be corrected of course! Have a root around in the region hacks forum and see what pops out!
