M*A*S*H (TV Series) on DVD (?)

Alan Titherington (Reviewer) posted this on Thursday, 11th October 2001, 08:24

Was wondering if anyone has any information on the prospective release of this series. I`ve always thought it was one of the best things to come out of the US (TV -wise) and I`ve heard rumours that there will be a Region 1 copy to be had early next year, and I`m sure I`ve see an advert for it somewhere....BUT....there are 2 versions of each programme (I believe) - one with tacked on canned laughing (which the BBC accidentally broadcast one year and got sackloads of complaints), and one which lets the script speak for itself. If the `silent` one is going to be released then I`ll be first in the queue.

Hi Alan

Good news they will include BOTH versions on them see below:-

Then, in early 2002, Fox answers the prayers of many a TV fan. First let`s start with one of the most acclaimed television dramas ever, M*A*S*H. First up on 1/8 is the Robert Altman film that started it all. This 2-disc set includes a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, English 2.0 stereo and English and French mono tracks, audio commentary with Robert Altman, "AMC Backstory," "The Story of M*A*S*H," "M*A*S*H: History Through the Lens," and "M*A*S*H Reunion" featurettes, a film restoration demo, still gallery, trailers and an easter egg. Retail is $29.95. Also on 1/8, Fox will release M*A*S*H: The Complete First Season, Presented in full frame, with English and French mono tracks, as well an English track "without laugh track." Retail is $39.95 for the set.

sound great i`ll be buying them , only drawback is that iv`e heard rumours that the remaining series will only be released if the first is successful. Don`t know how many it has to sell to be deemed as successful but here`s hoping

Smithy,
Thanks mate! I was beginning to wonder whether I was imagining the `laughs or no laughs` versions. Anyway - I`m assuming they`ll turn up on play247 fairly shortly, hopefully at a discount.
