What with it being Halloween and all this talk of horror movies, I thought I would do my top 10 (mainly based on how much they scare me!):

1. Halloween
2. The Omen
3. Jaws
4. Rosemary`s Baby
5. Alien
6. The Exorcist
7. Psycho
8. The Thing (80`s)
9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
10. The Wicker Man

What about you guys....? "Everyone`s entitled to one good scare..." ;)

I`m not very good at lists for the following reasons,
1) I`m lazy
2) .. ah sod this..

anyway, no list of scary movies is complete without the original Haunting, The Ring, and the Innocents.. oh, and anything with Sandra Bullock in it.

My list of Horror Movies that scare me:

1) The Excorcist.

Pretty short list huh? Not that im a hard man or anything, but I was so desensitised in the 80`s that it takes a lot to properly scare me now (im talking worried to go to the bog, looking out a dark window, etc). And The Excorcist does the Job every time. Not only the finest horror film ever made, but one the best films, full stop.

But if were talking films that scared me as a kid, then (bearing in mind i was 8 or 9 when I first saw nightmare on elm street. And I had seen arnies full back catalogue by 10):

1) IT (see above. Scared to go to the toilet)
2) The Fly (Birthing Maggotts. Ew)
3) In the Shadow of Kilimajiro (Flesh eating Baboons. My dad hired it out for me and my brother when we were off ill in junior school......)
4) Superman III (when the woman gets cyborged)
5) Jaws (see toilet thing)
6) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (my brother cried at the end when Donald Sutherland starts screaming)
7) The Birds (freaked me out about birds)
8) 976-Evil (although I watched this recently and its s***)
9) Maniac Cop (watched this again recently and Bruce Campbell Kicks ass! (natch))
10) Hellraiser (in retrospect, that was a little bit too much for our young minds)

Im bumping

Maniac Cop

for

Carrie

I was just chatting with a coleague about scary films he can get his kids and we both remembered, almost simultaniously, s***ting our pants when the arm shoots out the ground and grabs that girl.

I have to say, that probably made me properly jump more than any other film.

And a good change from the book too, which has a reasonably happy ending.

what happens at the end of the book then?

he doesn`t go, "body snatchers is people?" in a bizarre 70s crossover does he?

There`s no doubting that. I think my main "problem" or reason that it isn`t higher on my list is - because it was banned, I never got to see it until I was about 19/20 (whenever it was rereleased at the cinema). Although I thought it was pretty creepy, it just didn`t (doesn`t) have the same effect on me as "The Omen", "Halloween" etc that I first saw when I was about 10-12. I`ve no doubt if I had seen it then it would have scared me s***less and be higher up on my list! I wish I could have... :(

"The Exorcist" also IMO has one of thes best/most under-rated horror sequels in "Exorcist 3: Legion" (the "proper" sequel). I thought it was great - dark, creepy and well, very under-rated. (unlike "Exorcist 2: The Heretic" which is basically a pile of s***e, lol!).

EDIT: when I first saw "Halloween" I was very young - and it just really scared me/got to me - the music, the atmosphere, the darkness, and the fact that when you look out the window at the end.... and his body has gone (ie. NO happy ending!. I even persuaded my mom to hire out "Halloween 2" soon after because I`d heard he got killed at the end - so finally, I could have a decent nights sleep!

SPOILER:
The pods, after they are rumbled, sort of rise up and fly off into space. Humans for teh win, as it were.

And yeah, E3 was pretty good. Its got a few good freak out moments. Especially when that girl crawls over the ceiling.
