movie freak (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 23rd June 2005, 18:07

I just checked out www.play.com, and these movies are all going to be released on October 3rd. However, there aren`t any special features listed yet. Does anyone else have any inof on the DVD`s? Is there any news about them on this site?

I`d buy Batman and Batman Returns as they are still excellent and the ones who kick started the whole gothic Batman, because hypothetically what you lot said is like saying I`m not going to bother buying Superman or Superman II because Superman Returns is a lot better.

Without the directors vision of the originals, superhero movies wouldn`t of been taken seriously as they are today, without Donner and Puzo, the Salkind's would of done a p*** take version of Superman much in the spirit of the 60s Batman.

Without Burton, Batman would have been the updated version of the 60s television series, and Batman and Robin which was directed by Joel Schumacher is a perfect example of how the franchise could of started.

I think the Burton Batman films should be filed under the "films that have aged badly" thread. I`ve never understood the fan-boy devotion to Burton, he`s not in the same class as Nolan or Donner. Nice production design and cinematography do not make an engrossing film and, with the exception of Scissorhands and Ed Wood, none of his films have any heart or have the ability to grab you and carry you through the movie. Batman Begins and Superman: The Movie grab you by the busker browns and keep your eyes glued to screen throughout... alas the same cannot be said for any of the Batman originals. I have very high hopes for Superman Returns, Bryan Singer has stated that he`s essentially making a sequel to Donner`s Superman and those blogs at bluetights.net just keep getting better and better.

So to answer your question, no I have no idea what special features are on the new Batman dvds. Sorry. ;-)

I`m definitely buying the first 2, I prefer them to Begins for lots of reasons. Can`t wait for the special features and also to hopefully get a new transfer. Apparently, the version of Batman Forever is to be an extended version that runs around 2 and a half hours (though the play running time doesn`t confirm this at the moment) so I hope that`s true, will be worth checking out I think, as the third film still has some merit in my opinion. The fourth meanwhile, will be not be getting bought. Maybe if it`s a cut down to 15mins version?

No, Frank Miller took Batman down the dark alley. Tim Burton`s gothic touch was unwarranted but at least the films were made in the right direction (as opposed to Schumacher`s). The reason I won`t be buying them is because Batman Begins tells the true story of Batman. I`m not too keen on Superman as a character, but the first two films are great (I have them), but because Returns is not a remake, it`s a different scenario to Batman.

There was me thinking that it was a fictional story. :/
