I am I alone in believing that this is the best film ever created by the human hand?
no my friend you are not! saw this in the cinema twice and it just blew me away! the music, the visuals, the editing! true, it does feel that having watched it is the equivalent of being beaten up. but films like this are what keeps my faith in cinema.
and the book is awesome too
no you`re not
i`m still shaking fractionally from getting the DVD the other day and watching it again - even my slasher-movies-and-romcoms-only bf liked it and was moved :)
l liked a fair few of the cut scenes too - there was stuff that shoulda stayed in. the interview with Hubert Selby Jr is hilarious, unintentionally.
did you guys like Dancer in the Dark too? that pulls off a smiliar emotional-rack act....
Yep - to reiterate, it was probably the most amazing film experience of my life (and I`ve seen a few films!). Sounds like the book is worth a read too!
I haven`t actually seen Dancer In The Dark yet, although going by recommendations I think I will check it out.
Cheers,
Kid
to go further on my comment about the book, well for once i will say that if you are gonna see the film then do so before you read the book. never before have i seen a film which is as close to an adaptation of a book. literally 90% of the dialogue in the film is taken straight from the book and there is only one minor storyline that is not included in the finished film.
the only problem is that a lot of people have criticised the film as having a very simple message (i.e. drugs are bad...like duh) but to me this misses the point. one of the key elements in the story is that of sarah goldfarb and her descent through slimming pills. its just very very powerful.
soundtrack is great as well!!! (i have yet to get the poster but if i do then i`ll let you all know!)
ooops, before you all begin to think that im some kind of mad obsessive about this film (it really is that good!) then check out the website for how film tie in websites really should be done. dont go looking before you have seen the film or indeed if you think that the mere sight of the word Tappy will make your heart beat faster!

juiced by tappy... juiced by tappy... :)
speaking about it with my partner we came to a strange agreement - the first time you know how the film is going to go is very early - the first title`s decay says it all. mmm. so nicely done
Only things missing are DTS and a soundtrack only track - music`s fabulous :)
Mattski, I can agree with you. I don`t think the "message" of the film is as simple as "drugs are bad".
Does the film even have a message? I think it is such an intelligient film (and no doubt book) that to think that it does have a message would not do it justice. I think it provides a powerful study and illustration of how peoples relationships, minds and perceptions of reality can be mutated through the course of an addiction, no matter what it should be (although the main one here is drugs!)
Simply "Drugs are bad"? I think thats far too focused in such a broad ranging and powerful film.
...and the soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard!!!
