Scum - The original (BBC) version........

mc7t (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 23rd January 2005, 13:10

Hiya, :D
I`ve been after this for ages & now have finally found it as part of the region 1 Alan Clarke collection box set.
Trouble is, i`ve already got the other 3 films in the collection.
Anyone know if this is available on it`s own?...
I`m just a bit loathe to spend £40+ just for one movie.
Cheers
Mark ;)

The original TV play was made in 1977 and is shorter than the 1979 film version. Both had Ray Winstone in and the prison regime is slightly altered between versions, but as far as I can see the original is only available in tha Alan Clarke box set. Sorry :(

....I want that one........Bitty

Unless you are an absolute completist you will be disappointed by the BBC play.It was finally shown on BBC2 a few years ago,and after the powerful cinema version, the tv one is a bit lacking.Obviously the language is not so strong, the violence is toned down, and the whole thing seems a bit weak after the movie.

I bet the greenhouse scene is not in the TV version either. ;)

I saw this during the banned season on channel 4 in the early 1990s. the BBC version is worth seeing, and there are enough differences to keep you interested. i think that Archer was a "bigger" character, while Carling has a missus ("say what you want in front of the missus")
worth getting, but to the tune of £40? depends on how much of a collector you are I suppose/

The cinema film was shown in C4 Banned season.
The BBC version was shown on BBC 2.I don`t think its even been given a BBC4 repeat, although I`m sure one will turn up eventually

The kid in the greenhouse scene,

did actually go on to become Alan Titchmarsh.

Who`s the daddy.
