just been to see this at a preview. what a fantastic film.

forget about the obvious links with ameilie, this is a different film, although a lot of jeunet regulars pop up which is nice. definately have to see it again.

I agree - a great movie. Saw it in France when it opened a few months back... looking forward to the eventual DVD release...

what was it like seeing it over there. ive read that the french media wont criticise jeunet, that he can do no wrong, did it get a good reaction from the audience?

That`s not what I`ve heard! Amelie got criticised by a lot of French critics for creating a `fascist` view of Montmartre (graffiti CGI`ed out, low ethnic people count, etc). A Very Long Engagement is currently wrapped up in a big debate over whether it counts as a genuinely French and thus European film (important for things like award categories, etc) because of `foreign` investment.
