Page 1 of `Fancy` Cases

These are becoming more abundant... these cardboard cases that look really cool at first... but a few months later, look really bad. My Region 1 X-Men, the case is now beginning to peel. I`ve had that since December. Then there`s Fight Club - that nice cardboard case looks and feels good, but not a month later when there`s more rips and fraying all over it. And I`ve only watched it three times. I`ve now avoided buying The Terminator. lol sorry to moan, but it`s just silly really - why can`t they just use the double DVD plastic cases like Gladiator`s (yeah, some of them are just as flimsy) I wouldn`t mind them so much if they didn`t charge a top-rate of £24.99 for them in some shops.

And on that note... WARNER BROTHERS!!!!! CHANGE THOSE STUPID CARDBOARD CLIP THINGS!

I agree and if you go into dixons, tesco etc most of the cardboard cases on the shelves look buggered even before some mug buys one!

I got terminator while back from tesco and after the girl on the counter `fingered` it she managed to make a crease in the card - so I demanded a replacement.

The region 4 version of terminator has a nice plastic case - if you can do multi region then that might be the one for you dude. available from easy dvd in australia.

I like Fancy cases! I was actually disappointed to see Gladiator didn`t have one. But I do aggree with you on those clip ones, ther are horrible, you have to use your finger nails to dig it open and close to break the damn thing everytime.

But back to those fancy cases, I think they are great. My Fight club copy is still in great condidtion, I`ve had it for 10 months now, same for Magnolia R1, it also has a Fight Club style box. Toy Story box set on R1 is a bit different, normal plastic case wrapped in carboard and wrapped in see through plastic again, still in great condidtion, but I think the R2 version is better.

There`s a reason why they have these fancy cases, first of all, I think that it`s nice that they made an efford to design and make these cases especailly, you get more for you money I think. And when you have a box set like buffy or X-Files, imagine 6 or 7 different boxes! like the new soprano DVD, 4 seperate boxes, takes up so much room. But buffy is a great design, and my copy is still in great condition. I think you don`t take care of it good enough, so don`t blame the Studios, you should be glad that they made a efford to make them.

Maybe you misread. I do like them, they`re very pretty etc, I did say that they look and sometimes feel cool.

But charging £24.99 for them... you say that we get value for money for the effort they make to manufacture them... well, I think £25 is still a lot of money for what is lets face it, cardboard.

And yeah, I know that £24.99 is the dearest price and there are much cheaper... etc.

Maybe it`s just the air here in Glasgow that frays mines then.

I like fancy cases except warner bros. If getting a wb dvd its best to get them from australia as they dont have those dodgy snapper cases. Cases are for style and looks. I love cases that look and feel great. I dont agree that they fall apart. They are dvd cases plain and simple and have the purpose of storing dvds and looking great. Your not supposed to play rugby with them or anything. You`ll be pulling them apart with two lorries next. Of course if you do these things they will wear and tear. They are also not built to provide sexual favours. Through normal use:

What harm could come in that procedure. If lending to mates, im sure they are responsable adults and know not to squash dvds or throw them or anything. my mates have fight club and he has seen it 4-5 times since december when he bought it and its in prime condition. He keeps his dvds in a cupboard out of harms way
That evil dead case looks excellent by the way but i still prefer the metal sleeve to T2 UE

Well, I don`t quite know what they do for you, but they don`t provide me with sexual favours. Nor do they get used to play rugby. Mines are also stored out of harms way.

Maybe HMV boiled mines in water first. Or maybe they played rugby with it and carefully glued it back together so that I`d buy it.

As I said, it must be the air in Glasgow, yeah?

I know what you mean Tom. I bought the Warner issue of All The President`s Men today because it is one of those films I just have to have. Having said that as with all the Warners I own, I feel like I have to handle them like a rare Ming Dynasty Vase, because the least sudden movement and they get damaged lol. Of course Warners dont stop there. They have gone further with their Goodfellas release by making the damn thing a `flipper`.I also noticed that their UK version of Sopranos Series 1 has a 5 part documentary which are only 5 minutes long each. The US version in comparison has a 77 minute interview feature and a commentary on the first episode. Thank goodness I got my player modified to multi-region. If I have to buy a dvd with a cardboard case it has to be wrapped up because it doesnt take long for them to disintegrate on the shelf without it and thats before youve even bought it. One of these days us long suffering citizens of rip -off Britain will make a stand and tell the studios they can no longer get away with things like this!
