Frank Herbert`s Dune, R1 - edited/shorter version?

Hodge (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 19th April 2001, 13:14

Not having Sky/satellite/digital TV, I didn`t get to see the TV adaptation of Dune when it was released last year - so I bought the R1 DVD. I heard at first that it was a 6 hour adaptation....then looked on play247.com, and it was advertised as approx 5 hours. Fair enough...bought it anyway. When I looked on the DVD cover.....265 minutes....4Hrs 25Mins. Eh?? What happened to the other 1Hr 35???

It`s still pretty good though. Just wandered if anyone knew why it was originally advertised as 6 hours, and released on DVD only 4 1/2 hours? Has it been edited for DVD release?

Cheers.

Best bet is checking out the official site at http://www.scifi.com/dune/

Bear in mind the R2 release is rumoured to have far more extras and more scenes that were edited from the R1 release. So maybe that can account for some difference. Apparently the R2 will be in full DD5.1 and DD2.0 as the R1.

So for once R2 beats R1!

Us version is the standard version, also it`s only Dolby Surround and has few extras

The R2 version is set to be the Directors Cut, DD5.1 and have a decent set of extras.
