I resently bought my daughter a Proline 2000 because the dvd player that we got some time ago was a proline 1000 and we had not a single problem with it we can play all region 2 and 2 discs even the Matrix which a lot of proline owners cant
but we just bought Dinosaur for her and guess what it doesnt even recognise that there is a disk in the hole.
it plays on the 1000 but not on the 2000
anybody got any ideas as I dont fancy sitting through it on our player every day as its her fav film at the moment

Seriously folks, I think it`s time for another go at Disney via Watchdog.

Okay, they made a right meal of the Wharfedale/Gladiator thing (blaming the player, not Columbia) but they did at least switch on public awareness of the new disc.

I personally think it`s time for Nicky Campbell to show us DVD fans what he`s made of - do you agree ?

Doesn`t play on my Matsui DVD 110. This is the only title I`ve had trouble with in over 100 movies.

Maybe it`s RCE???? My player is set to ALL. I`ll try setting the player to R2, but I`m not going to hold my breath.

Just contacted Watchdog. Let`s see if they`ll sort it out.

Shame. It was a birthday present for my missus. She is really gutted that it doesn`t work.

Look, the more of us that have players refusing to play the disc get onto Watchdog, the more chance they`ll do something about it.

The problem is called something like "memory table overflow" it caused by players that don`t have enough memory (mainly occurs on budget players, but can occur on more expensive players if the maker of the player misinterpreted the DVD Spec (quite easy as it`s doesn`t give a fixed memory value))


The Proline 2000 is a clone of the Oritron 600, Oritron hae said they are working of a fix for The Dinosaur but they have not released it yet.


I have tried an Oritron 600 and seen the lockups on Dinosaur and some of the Farscape discs and also menu lockups on loads of other discs. Stange thing is that it plays R1 T2: UE, Abyss and ID4 with no problems at all.

BTW: The Proline 2000 is not as buggy as the Proline 1000 (have you seen the labels woolworths stick on loads of new releases saying that "due to the advanced features of this disc it may not play properly on the Proline 1000 players"


Another point though, you are all blaming the discs, when a lot of the time it is also the player causing the problem. budget players might be cheap, but you have to think how they made them so cheap (they have to cut back on something to save money)

Uh-oh I feel a big argument about The DVD Forum coming on here....

This is a well-documented debate, Cutz, but whether your player is budget or not does not detract from the fact that the big companies (Disney and Columbia Tristar) are deviating from the `masterplan` by introducing stuff that is outside the Forum`s spec.

Whilst I agree that budget players are not expected to meet the same standard as your Sonys, Hitachis, Pannys etc, they should not be prevented from playing the very thing they were designed for - DVDs - just because the software manufacturers want to show off a fancy new menu, or hidden Easter Egg (I`ll quote it again, cos it makes me chortle) like `Mickey Mouse Does Dallas`.

As usual the little guy gets dumped on

but that then turns the argument around onto the player manufacturers and asks them why are their players substandard

Sorry, Iain, you seem to have missed my point - ANY DVD player should be able to play discs, not a select few.

The budget manufacturers adhere to the minimum standards laid down by the DVD Forum. The software manufacturers like Disney/Columbia seem to think that the majority of us own the mid-range or above players.

Let`s face it, without budget DVD players the format would be as popular as, say Laserdisc (not condoning LD owners, incidentally, just a comparison), and these fools wouldn`t be making as much money at our expense.

I totally agree with contating watchdog......
Neither the normal or collectors edition of Dinosaur work on my Grundig fine arts cinema system.....but all other dvds work fine including the so called difficult ones T2.. Matrix.. Toy Story 2 etc etc ... I am very annoyed with Disney for not informing them unlike Gladiator.
