Suggestions for a DVD for son`s birthday party

RichardH (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 15th September 2004, 09:18

Our 6 year old`s having some friends round for his birthday party (delayed slightly), and we though we`d get the projector going with popcorn etc for them. But haven`t decided what to watch. All the stuff that`s been out for a while will have been seen already, so are there any new releases that might suit? He`s already got ScoobyDoo2, so that`s no good. If we find something they`ve not seen before, it might keep `em quiet ;)

Anyone aware of anything just released (maybe another region) that might do the trick?

Around the world in 80 days
Chitty chitty bang bang
The cat in the hat
The Lion King 1,2,3
Harry Potter
Finding Nemo
Toy Story 1,2
Ice Age
Monsters Inc
James and the giant peach

Sorry for any old ones, that was all I could think of!

I think the Goonies is released next week (that is if his party hasn`t already happened) that`s always a good film for kids.

Instead of a newbie, how about an oldie?

Labyrinth springs to mind. Every kid enjoys that - it certainly gave me great memories. Only - prepare to explain away Bowie`s codpiece. Every parent thinks "Oh, they won`t notice that". But they do!

It`s also pretty cheap and easy to get a hold of. But if that doesn`t work for you, there are loads of old quasi-classics (especially from the eighties) suitable for the whole family.

try www.fast-rewind.com if you want to go down that route.

Yu-Gi-Oh - The Complete First Season, the only reason I suggest this, because it`s always on when I turn telly on.

Kids don`t mind if they`ve seen it once, they like to watch them over and over and over and over again.

Did I ever tell you my favorite color was blue?

Thanks for the suggestions so far - I`ll try a few out on him. The "recent" ones like Ice Age, Monsters Inc etc are already up there on the shelf and well watched. Goonies might be worth a pop.

Iron Giant was one of the first DVDs we bought - what a great film.

Is The Iron Giant good? It`s a film I`ve never got around to watching...

Iron Giant - I really like it - although it differs from the book, it has superb animation, not too schamltzy, and a surround track that will give your kit a good work out. Well worth it, particularly at the price you`ll find it at these days.
