BUT WILL MY DVD PLAYER SHOW ME THERE GREAT VIEWING PLEASURE..... NOPE!!!!!!!!

DINOSAUR GETS HALFWAY THROUGH (CHAPTER 20) AND THEN RESETS ITSELF TO THE START... THE CHAPTER SEARCH MALFUNCTIONS, THE TRAILERS (ANNOYING DVD TRAILERS, DISNEY ARE THE ONLY ONES I HAVE ENCOUNTERED ON A DVD SO FAR!) FREEZE AND WILL NOT SKIP!

THE STRAIGHT STORY JUST FREEZES AFTER ABOUT 30 MINS AND THE CHAPTERS MALFUNCTION.

TOY STORY DIDN`T EVEN PLAY!

I HAVE HEARD MANY REASONS FOR DISNEY`S POOR DVD TRANSFERS BUT I WAS SUPRISED TO HEAR THAT THEY ONLY TEST THEIR DVD`S ON TOP OF THE RANGE DVD PLAYERS (LIKE SONY) AND NEVER ON THE BUDGET DVD PLAYERS FOR AROUND £250 OR LESS!
I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY PLAYER AT ALL OTHER THAN THESE THREE DVD`S FROM DISNEY. THE OTHER DISNEY DVD I HAVE (101 DALMATIONS) PLAYS FINE. I HAVE OVER 100 DVD`S IN MY COLLECTION AND MY PLAYER IS RAITE MULTI REGION DVD WHICH IS ACTUALLY AN AMERICAN DVD PLAYER I BAUGHT WHILE I WAS LIVING IN LOS ANGELES, IT REALLY IS A GREAT MACHINE (I BAUGHT IT A YEAR AGO FROM FRY`S ELECTRONICS IN BURBANK FOR $120... BARGAIN!!!) AND IT HAS SERVED IT`S PURPOSE WELL! BUT WHEN IT COMES TO DISNEY IT`S NOT QUITE UP THERE IN THE SONY LEAGUE. THIS REALLY p***ES ME OFF. DISNEY ARE GIVING DVD`S A BAD NAME, TO MY KNOWLEGE THE AVERAGE DVD PLAYER SOLD IN THE UK IS AROUND £200 TO £250 AND NOT THE OVER £500 SONY MODELS THAT SEEMS TO BE DISNEYS STANDARD.
SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE, DISNEY NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY THEY TEST THEIR DVD`S. THEY NEED TO APOLOGISE FOR THEIR MISTAKES AND GIVE THE AVERAGE CONSUMER BACK HIS RIGHTS .......OR GOD DAMN IT WE WILL FIGHT THEM IN THE AIR AND ON THE BEACHES. LETS ALL STAND TOGETHER ON THIS, SIDE BY SIDE AND FIGHT THE BASTARDS!

IF YOU ARE p***ED OF WITH THIS WHOLE DISNEY ISSUE (NOT TO MENTION THE COST OF DISNEY DVD`S COMPARED TO OTHERS.. DON`T GET ME STARTED ON THAT ONE!) REPORT IT TO THIS WEB ADDRESS AND HELP POOR OLD WALT FROM TURNING IN HIS GRAVE.

Yes i was p***ed off cos dinosaur didnt work on my player. i was about to smash my player at one point. But i wouldn`t want my name mentioned on watchdog(national tele) Mates will take the p***. is it okay to use an alias and not give a phone number

Well my brothers got a 100 notes Whafdale 750S from Tesco ,and I lent him Toy story 1&2 and they played perfectly on it!, special features and all.

If Wharfdale can get it right with there cheap player, then it seems to me it`s the DVD player Manufactures fault and not Disneys.

Sony and Disney .....Iv`e said it before ..."You test the best on the best"

I`ve got a himage player, cheapest of the cheap and all the disney discs i`ve tried including 2nd discs from collectors editions all work perfectly.

You`re missing the point. It`s the discs that break the rules, not the players - Disney have as good as admitted this.

The fact that some players have enough leeway to accommodate these non-standard discs is neither here nor there. If it doesn`t play on a standard player, it`s not really a DVD.

An analogy would be an audio CD which contained 100 minutes of music. It`s perfectly possible to create such a disc, but most players wouldn`t play it, because it exceeds the standard maximum length. I`m sure record companies couldn`t get away with saying "Well, we tried it on our £20,000 Sony audiophile CD transport, so it must be OK!" - and DVD producers shouldn`t, either.

Yes but you also can`t expect them to test them on every Machine that comes out of China and Korea, and the fact that lots of sub 200 note players can play them with no bother shows that there`s no excuses for a few manafactures to get it wrong!

I don`t expect them to test them on every machine either.

The DVD standard does exist on paper, though, and is set in stone - so it`s not that difficult to create a disc which conforms to it and doesn`t break any of the rules. (Just as you don`t need to test a music CD on every single CD player to know that a 100 minute disc is going to cause problems, because CD players are only officially required to play up to 74 minutes.)

Admittedly, there are also some players which fail to conform to standards and have not been tested properly - hence the need for firmware upgrades on certain models. However, in the great majority of incompatibility cases, it`s the disc that`s the cause.

I think breaking these rules, whether it`s done by player manufacturers or by studios, is very bad for the DVD format and might limit its acceptance among non-enthusiasts. People know that any old 80 quid Matsui VHS deck will play any VHS tape they buy or rent, so if they see all these compatibility problems occurring with DVD they`ll probably run a mile.

Studios and manufacturers need to work together to ensure compatibility. In particular, studios need to be less obsessed with showing off by creating snazzy-looking menus and animations, and more concerned with testing out and making sure the damned thing works!

The way I understood the problem, was that the discs are within the specification laid out by the DVD forum.
And the DVD players are within the specification laid out by the DVD forum.

But the DVD forums specification is not specific enough, so problems like this can arise.

Now I think help may be at hand for you, I think your firmware maybe updateable by CDR, I seem to rember seeing around some were. have a look around the net, but take great care to get the right one, and install it right. cause if you dont then its bye bye DVD player.

Goodmans is quite a known company so why dont it work on mine. i dont think its from korea. and its no smalltime company either they have there stuff in argos comet and lots of other big stores. The fact remains that region 2 discs should work on region 2 players not just some players all of them

Goodmans isn`t really a company. It`s a brand name owned by the Kingfisher group of companies (Comet, Argos and so on), and is a bit like a supermarket own brand. Goodmans products tend to be rebadged OEM items from other manufacturers, like Philips and Grundig. (That`s not to knock them - a lot of the Goodmans items are decent quality and very good value, such as the widescreen TV I got for £300.)

As for the DVD standard not being so standard... crikey, that`s a veritable kettle of worms. It`s enough to make you want to go back to VHS. (Well, not quite!)
