Simple question;
How can such a lame ass movie recieve one of the best sound mixes ever?
I never thought much of this at the flicks - it bordered on laughable at points, but i can think of worse ways to spend £7..
Anyway, having lent the DVD from a friend, i sat down for a good chuckle, and all i got was my ribs rattled, my head pounded and my sound system rocked!!
My word, the audio on this is quite spectacular indeed, being mixed by the masterful and near legendary Gary Rydstrom, (who, oddly, always seem to end up producing amazing sound mixes for the cackest films ever - The Haunting anyone?? ;) )
The scene through the canyon, with rockets in all directions is stunning, or when the Hulk smashes the `Copter to the ground and starts tearing it up - bass almighty.
I`ll stop going on now, but listen to this at reference level and be stunned - jaw dropping sound indeed :D

Is this a DTS or DD mix?

It`s both, and before we get into a favouritism debate, there`s ZERO difference between the two mixes - once again, the difference is all phsycological for many people. Dolby and DTS are superb, a blind test proved both are indistinguishable from each other.
So there :p
As is the LOTR The Two Towers - the DTS mix is no different from the Dolby mix, and when i say no different, i mean it was absolutely pointless New Line offering the DTS mix in the first place. Did anyone say marketing ploy??... >:( >:(

RE: The Hulk Sound Quality - OH LORDY!!
I loved Hulk, but Blackstar haven`t shipped my copy yet :(
They better ship it tomorrow or I`ll just cancel my order and never use them again. They`ve been getting slow since they now ship via Jersey. Although for £10.99 it is a good price I think (that`s with the £3 voucher).

Just a thought,
Is THX bettet than Dolby or DTS?
I feel kinda stupid as I always get excited about DTS over Dolby.
oh well.
RE: The Hulk Sound Quality - OH LORDY!!
THX is not a sound format but a way of prosesing(sp) a sound format. ie: Dolby 5.1 THX.
If your amp has THX on it what happens is your amp gets the Dolby/DTS signal and puts it through the THX chip where it is played about with and then sent to your speakers. The proper name for this is post prosesing (sp) Try here for a better explanation.

I thought it was just a certification guaranteeing the highest level of audio-visual quality on DVDs and the highest quality in components? I didn`t think it had anything to do with `post-processing`? Where on the site does it go into detail on that? Oh, and this `highest quality` thing is a load of bollocks in itself, as I`ve seen THX certified discs that are naff (and I hear Highlander is the biggest offender).

From the Onkyo web site
What means THX® Ultra Certification?
It's your assurance that the product is the best in its class - receive THX certification and carry the THX logo, home theater components must meet very high performance standards to ensure that the component is capable of reproducing exactly what you hear in the world s best THX theaters - the two THX packages are:/n/n THX Ultra Cinema Re-EQ® to take the edginess or "brightness" out of your home cinema sound and compensate for the fact that sound mixed for theaters will sound too bright when played back through flat response speakers in your home./n/n Timbre Matching® to match the tone of your front speakers to your surrounds to compensate for the fact that only two surround speakers are used in a typical home-theater system, instead of a full array of speakers as in a movie theater./n/n Adaptive Decorrelation® to provide a stereo "feel" when your surrounds are playing mono - automatically switches off when playing stereo./n/n Bass Management® Electronic Crossover to allow you to use more compact, easier-to-place speakers, while sending bass to a subwoofer system./n/n Bass Peak Level Manager® protects your subwoofer from overloading due to the great amount of bass a 5.1-channel soundtrack delivers Loudspeaker Position Time Synchronization® to let you easily set up your system for an optimum listening position.
