A friend of a friend has a mate down the pub that has got pirate copies of some recent Oscar Nominated films.
I believe they are the discs sent out for the oscar review.
Does anyone know any details about the quality of these and can they be copied onto VHS for personel use only.
I know of an article in Hotdog that mentioned this. It says `for your consideration` in subtitles every 15 and offers pinsharp quality. However a load have been seized and I guess they would look very unfavourably on anyone who did copies.
Got given one of these from a friend for Christmas. A copy of Die Another Day.
It`s great quality but does have the message "For Award Ceromony Review Purposes Only" pop up at the bottom of the screen, about every 20 odd minutes, that lingers for about 30 secs and dissapears.
Bloomin` annoying....which is exactly why they`re there....and rightly so.

"which is exactly why they`re there....and rightly so."
So why don`t you `shop` the culprit and give the DVD to the `authorities` eh?
I`m looking forward to Pirates of the Carribean... sorry!
"So why don`t you `shop` the culprit and give the DVD to the `authorities` eh?"
Oh what a good mate you must be. Never ever doing anything slightly wrong ever, oh no.
Anyway, these are all DVD Quality and apart from the "Awards..." text every so often you can`t fault them. Especially if you`re only getting it for a few quid (or free). Don`t let the (illegal) trader rip you off though, I`d say you should pay around £6 max per film.
well said ben i have a copy of 8mile which is perfect and the message it displays only comes on twice for about 10 seconds each time during the whole film. if they didnt charge so much for dvd`s then more people would`nt buy the copys.
I was just stating a point that the guy made, as for "Never ever doing anything slightly wrong ever, oh no.".....you obviously know me so well!!
I think he was just trying to say that he`d be a bit of a Nazi if he "shopped" his friend for giving him a DVD. Personally I`m not a fan of silvers; not for "moral" reasons, but because they`re generally s***.
Oh, and I`m sure *everyone* has done *something* wrong in their lifetime, whether they consider it to be so or not ;)
But we`re not talking about silvers Chris, we`re talking about rips of DVD-Screeners which *are* fantastic quality.
