Crappy DVD`s Or Not?

In my local Catalogue Clearance type shop they have 20 DVDs which I don`t actually believe to be ex-catalogue. They include titles such as Seven, The Mask, Dollar For The Dead, The Whistle Blower, Red Scorpion, The Wedding Singer.... and are 4 for £10! Seems a little too cheap though I`m going to try them out next time I go down there - but presumably these are not going to be the quality that you get from HMV etc. Or are they likely to be? They are certainly not special editions! Does anyone know the source of these titles which seem to be appearing in DVD player & film packages and on market stalls?

They will be exactly the same as the ones bought from HMV etc but will not be the special editions. You will find they will just have the films and not a lot else. They released a load of this to try and sell a load of other crap titles.

This is just a guess!! These DVDs were given away with a cheap DVD player & due to the cheapness of the player probably quite a few got returned! I presume the manufacterer didn`t want the DVDs back so the catalogue company sold them on for a pittance hence your shop now has them.

As far as I`m aware they are the same that are in the shops but obviously single disc in the case of Seven.

Apart from the Entertainment in Video DVDs - Seven, The Mask, The Wedding Singer (which are left-overs from a substantial stock-pile of back catalogue DVDs) most of these are chepo cr*p, definetly watch at your own risk!

In fact alot of these cheapo budget DVDs are considered by industry insiders as illegally produced titles, as some companies neglect to re-license, or update their licenses for DVD. Some titles also come from VHS sources, and suffer from the same quality restrictions as tape, and have no `framing` - case in point, I was given a copy of Piranhas (the remake thats just been on Ch.5), and you can see some tape-created artefacts, and even where the tape hasn`t tracked-in correctly!!

As they say - you pay your money, you make your choice...
