DVDs & Films Forum
I know the picture resolution on DVDs in the UK is better than US. But...
Do you prefer to buy region 1 or region 2 DVDs?
I prefer to buy region 1 because I don`t like those huge certificates they slap on all over the DVD covers and discs. I think they ruin some of the artwork on DVDs. I do understand they have to certify the films but do they have to be that big as well as every other EU countries certificate slapped all over the discs?
Also, do you prefer film studios releasing DVDs in their original artwork?
I hate ALL the MGM dvd covers! I can`t understand why they can`t release them in the original artwork, for example the James Bond DVDs. Why can`t they release them in the original artwork?
1. I prefer region 2 to be honest. I prefer the picture and the non jerkiness. I must say that theres something I quite like about the certificates on the artwork, seems to complete the package for me (strange tho that may seem), although we don`t need the EU stuff on it.
2. I prefer the original artwork too.
I agree about the artwork too. Especially with things like James Bond: I mean - the Bond posters are great - why on earth weren`t they used for the DVD covers?? The "any old photo" bond covers are horrible!!
I can only play R2 so that problem`s solved. as for the covers the original artwork is best. But I started doing my own covers as some are crap and I also like to put my Warner discs in Amarays.
As for the certificate, well sometimes it is annyoing but sometimes it`s just part of the packaging. To be honest I don`t like the US covers as they always have the huge barcode on the top, the one for R2 discs are nicely at the bottom(right I think).
Then again get yourself a good image editing programme and make your own. that`s the best I think.
R4 discs have the worst covers. There age certificates are huge. Spoils the cover in my opinion. However like some others above, I don`t mind it on R2 discs.
