Wharfedale m5 for less than a ton

Westy (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 28th October 2001, 10:43

Hi all,

Don`t quote me on this, but as a Tesco kid, i have heard numerous rumours and seen enough memo`s to tell that soon the Wharfedale M5 will soon be retailing for £99.99 at all participating Extra store`s very soon.
This is due to the Dansai bargain being an enormous success in the 3 weeks its been on sale(something like 100 units in one day at one of the Extras in England!).
Like i say this isn`t concrete, and don`t go repeating this to Tesco staff near you-but we`re pretty sure this will happen in time for christmas!

Hi all,

Clayts and myself were having a chinwag about this on the weekend and he touched upon the fact that the m5 may be stopped as its getting very hard for Tesco to get any new stock in. Those stores that have them are probably holding stock from weeks previously. I know that Cardiff Extra have had availability problems, not surprising as their one of the biggest and busiest Tesco branches in the company.
Alas as an offshoot of this, it looks as though the price drop won`t happen now as it would be a bit daft and unprofessional to run a good promotion with poor availability for the customer. Plus if it did happen it would have happened by now, and i haven`t heard anything for quite a while.
Such a great shame as this would`ve been a winner for christmas.
If i hear anything to the contrary i`ll post it-but until then, the m5 stays at £150. Its still a great bargain for such a feature packed player.

Soot,

Looking through the store news bulletins, there doesn`t seem to be any info regarding in stor vat free activity. The company are doing this to encourage customers to use the .com business. They may indeed run the VAT free promotion on software only-the last hardware VAT free promotion was only a few weeks ago, the company strategy specifies every 4-5 months to run these sort of promotions. They will only run one or the other, so if the hardware is vat free, the software sales will double, if the software is VAT free, the interest in the hardware (at full price) is increased immeasureably. Its a clever marketing ploy that works every time. Don`t forget it costs the company money to instigate a VAT free promotion-the increased custom on a limited amount of projected sales stock makes the profit. God i`m giving away my reatil experience here!I`d better shut up!
