I felt compelled to reply.

I bought one fo these and it was sooooo noisy due to the PC type fan in the unit that I took it back for a refund the following day.

Not saying it would not work, but how can something with a fan pushing air out, help to reduce airborn dust and pollen?

Ordered a fanless Mountain Breeze one off ebay for about £12 inc delivery and it runs silently, ideal for use all day and throughout the night.

I had a "Mountain Breeze" style one many years ago, it was good, but I think the inclusion of the fan and washable filter will be an improvement.

The one I bought today has been running in daughters bedroom for the last 6 hours, it is bloomin lovely in there and for the first time in 2-3 months the calm isn`t being shattered by her explosive sneezes. Also her eyes aren`t bothering her.

£9.99 well spent to my mind.

Can you explain further how you fit the PC fan into the ioniser? Tell me, what type of current do the motor of this air ioniser use? Does it use Alternating Current?

The fan is already in the ioniser, looks like an ordinary 80mm case fan. Haven`t had a good look yet, as it`s been on since we got it. Probably standard molex 3 wire connector like on a CPU fan. Hopefully 12V DC but not sure if there is enough room in the beasty for a transformer so more likely 240V AC which does make em a bit dearer.

Results are remarkable, daughter is taking one dose of medicine a day to get her through school, then nothing else.
We were using eye drops, nasal sprays, tablets, local honey and basically anything we could which would help.
Not saying it would work for everyone, but it`s amazing how much it`s helped us and the noise isn`t really too much of a factor as she has a fan on anyway on these hot nights as she can`t open her window.

Cheers, I suffer from hayfever but don`t want the noise of a fan when trying to sleep. If it is AC then that would make things a bit more difficult.

not really, just dearer. a 240V AC fan like that will cost you a tenner or so, same as the unit and until you try it you won`t know how much quieter it will be so not really worth the effort. If it`s 12V DC then cheapy silent(er) fans are about 80p.

Why not go to a Lloyds Pharmacy and ask to hear one running and decide whether you can cope with it?

Peering in the front I can clearly see printed on the hub of the fan "DC Fan" so that`s solved then.

How easy it would be to change I`ll look into.

Excellent! I don`t know of any PC fans that use AC. They connect directly to the board or molex power which are DC.

To change the fans is easy. Red is for the power supply (usually 5V from a PC) but for the ionier it will be fine. Black is ground. The 3rd connection is a speed controller which is not required.
