22MB Broadband Connection

Willbur T (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 24th February 2006, 20:17

This is my first posting and I hope this is considered a bargin

Was looking to change me 512 broadband connection and found the UK Online are offering 22MB connection for 29.99 with 33:1 contention. When I looked it tested by line and my actual connection was 14.5MB, but that is still 29x my current speed. Only downside is you need to but their wireless ADSL2+ router.

Thanks

Agreed, it took me weeks to get connected after their "going live" date.
I`ve spent over 4 hours on the phone without getting through to a person at customer services. I recently got a reply to an email I sent to them three months previously.

Not with someone else`s bargepole.

be careful.the sales team lie to you. you have to be with a 2km range of their exchange, they told me i was just in it and could get 14.5 meg.

When i connected i was only gettin under 5 meg. I rang up, and after hours on the phone, i got through to their technical supprt. They told me i was misinformed and that i would even struggle to get 5 meg as i was over 3 km from thir exchange. I was p***ed off as you can imagin.

This is lower than their 8 meg service which is £5 cheaper with no connection cost. I told them to cap it at 8meg and asked for a refund of my connection fee and the extra £5 it had cost. They said they would do this, but they still havent got around to it yet as iam still gettin charged £30.

UK Online used to offer `unlimited` downloads (in fact 50GB/month) with their ADSL products but changed it to a `fair usage policy` yesterday.

They didn`t define `fair usage` any further but be asured that this is the first step to keep the user`s bandwith usage as low as possible.

So if you are thinking of shifting quite a lot of GB per month UK Online is not the right ISP for you.

Better sticking with a good ISP like BT broadband starting from £14.99.

I would third NTL, but for ADSL, I would recommend Plus Net. They are absolutely fabulous. Very strict on usage, if you havent got unlimited, but the account services they offer are far and away the best ive ever encountered, far better than NTL or any other ISP ive seen. Really chuffed with the service so far. And the call center is in England, too.........
