Nokia 6230i on Vodafone CrossNet 200: minimum term cost of £110 (after cashback)

Reestit Mutton (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 22nd May 2005, 00:02

Update (23/05): There is now also a deal with this handset on BT Mobile 150 (12 month minimum term) for a minimum term cost of £120 after cashback. While it is £10 more expensive than the deal highlighted below, it comes with a free bluetooth headset worth at least £20 so it has the edge price-wise. For those that are unaware, BT Mobile piggy backs on the TMobile network. Details are in a separate thread started by Spartacus.

Considering the fact that this is a newly released handset and the old superceded model (Nokia 6230) is currently far more expensive on contract (in terms of minimum term cost), what follows is a stonking deal.

One Stop Phone Shop are now advertising the Nokia 6230i with a 12 month Vodafone CrossNet 200 tariff (for those a little confused, this is basically the same tariff as Anytime 200) for free, with 8 months free line rental. In addition to this, they are also offering £10 additional cashback to customers who purchase online. In terms more familiar to those who are used to my way of describing these things...the minimum term cost of this deal is only £110, or £9.17 per month.

For those not in the know, the Nokia 6230i is the recent replacement to the popular Nokia 6230. The improvements over the Nokia 6230 include the following:

Video recording now up to a maximum of 1 hr (6230 is 4 mins)
Video resolution up to 176x144 (6230 is up to 128x96)
Still camera resolution of 1.3MP (6230 is 0.3MP)
Screen resolution 208x208 pixels (6230 is 128x128 )
Internal memory is boosted to 32MB (6230 is 6MB)

6230i also has a 3x digital zoom whereas the 6230 has no zoom function. However, I don`t rate digital zoom functionality as this can be achieved after uploading to your computer and it always loses you resolution (which, even with the 6230i, isn`t very high by digital camera standards to start with).

This deal is structured as follows: The normal line rental for CrossNet 200 is £30 per month. Your service provider will charge you this amount on a monthly basis until you choose to cancel the contract (this contract is cancellable after 12 months). The advertised minimum term cost is achieveable via cashback from the One Stop Phone Shop in three equal parts - £83.33 each time after 4, 8 & 12 months.

WEALTH WARNING: This deal is dependent on claiming cashback from the retailer. For those unfamiliar with the machinations of cashback contract deals, please read my article on this subject:

I`ve double checked with OSPS this morning and they say that

(a) They use Vodafone Direct (a Carphone Warehouse service provider) for this deal.
(b) you can cancel the free texts after 6 months.
(c) there is no itemised billing with this deal.

I`m a little dubious about the tthird point as E2Save always add £1.50 per month itemised billing to their Vodafone deals (also supplied by CPW), although I`ve been told that it`s an optional extra. (i.e. cancellable)
