Cheap Broadband router/wireless network

www.ozenda.co.uk/ProductList.asp

These Ozenda routers get fantastic reviews, the price drop makes them even better and looking on the above page the combo deals mean you can get a wirless card for your laptop from about £11!!!

I am in no way related to this company by the way, I just fly their flag because what they are selling is so good compared to that you get in the likes of PC world etc.

Cheers,

Bunnster

First product / item at £49.99 + vat and delivery.

Sorry if my terminology is incorrect, but note it has a 4 port 10/100 router, wireless and built in ADSL modem.

Sorry but I don`t see a bargain , I just looked on there and priced an equivalent set up to the Belkin I bought for £79.99 and got this

Quote:
Total Including VAT (17.5%) £77.29

My Belkin has a lifetime warranty and 24/7 Freephone number support while the Ozenda has a 1 year warranty and support number is 0845 601 8525 which you will have to pay for.

It is not as cheap as it might look when you add the vat and delivery on.

The ozenda is far superior, in signal strength and quality and range, set up is far superior, has WPA (pass key) encryption.

This has been reduced in price and (in my humble opinion) is now a bargain for the BEST wireless / network router with combined ADSL modem on the market. Until this came along, none of the combined units per as well as a seperate modem and wireless router / network.

so, yes if you are just going on price, then not a bargain, but if you go on what you are getting for your money then it is!

I`d always go for the Netgear DG834G over all the modem/routers I`ve seen. The user interface is great, and very easy to use. Firewall rules, Wireless setup all very simple and the range I find is great - although it will always depend on where + how you`re using it.

An absolutely fantastic ADSL Modem + Router + wireless (802.11g). With a nice firmware upgrade ready for ADSL2+ as well

And for £62.96 inc VAT (delivery extra) from Ebuyer:

I can`t comment on that as I have only used the Belkin which looks and feels good quality and gives an excellent signal in both strength and quality over a good range and has both NAT and SPI firewall ( Ozenda SPI only ) but I suppose you have tried both ?

No need to explain what WPA is as I have it on my Belkin as do owners of any other brand of wireless router.

I think you will find that the Netgear DG834G owns that title ;) which is what I was going to buy until I saw the Belkin on offer and decided to give it a try after reading so many good reports on it.

Sorry, I am completely wrong. Everybody ignore my posting.

Must make a note to write to all the magazines (e.g. PC Pro) and reviewers that have consistently rated the Ozenda above all other makes (including the others listed here).

(Mods please close this thread at your earliest convenience), thanks.

Bunnster,

I`m not sure what you mean by superior signal strength, etc. According to a review in Computer Buyer, the signal strength dropped from 79 seconds for a 100MB file transfer at short distance to 4.5 minutes towards the end of its range (which incidentally depends on antenna gain, transmit power and obstacles between the sender and receiver). To me that seems pretty much standard for a typical 802.11g system.

Full review here:-

http://www.computerbuyer.co.uk/buyer/reviews/65906/ozenda-ar4505gw.html

The price isn`t all that good either. There are many other ADSL routers + separate wireless card for a similar price or less from more established manufacturers, although to be fair, Ozenda were started up by 2 ex-employees of 3-Com.

I havn`t seen or tested this router but my feeling is that there is nothing special or superior about the product and the price is competitive at best, rather than an absolute bargain.
